Statistics regardless of the spanking by the NCAA. The Hurricanes are loaded and, so far as Maryland is concerned, whatever gain they register in next weeks national rankings won’t be too much. The TerrapinS are not deluding themselves so far as last nights 9–7 defeat before 52,506 spec tators is concerned. A 28–7 score would have been more like it. Terps Lack a Leader. Plainly, Maryland is not very similar to last years outfit, which went unbeaten and united and, indeed, never was behind during the regular season. The Ter rapins lack a leader. a take charge guy in the image of Bernie Faloney. and even Coach Jim Tatum is beginning to acknowledge that he was wrong last spring when he said: We’ll score plenty of points. What worries me is our defense” I” In five games now the Ter rapins have yielded only “a points but all they have to show for it are two victories. two defeats and one tie. With South Carolina. North Carolina State, Clemson, George Washington and Missouri remaining it now looks as if the Terrapins will be extended to wind up with better than a 500 record, which would help Tatum’s winning percentage not a bit. Hurricanes Too Good. Miami, which had never beaten Maryland in three previous engagements, was too good and too fast for the Terrapins, who gave it all they had until the final gun. The fact that Quarter backs Charley Boxold’s second period tumble led to the Hurricanes’ touchdown should take nothing away from Andy Gustafsons tribe and even Tatum was in complete agreement on this score. .. .--. Boxold fumbled and Right Halfback Whitley Rouviere of Bunckner, ILL.,, recovered for Miami on the Miami 48. With only 42 seconds left of the half, the Hurricanes picked up a first down on the Maryland 80 and missed with two passes. “This was how fast Miami was,” Tatum said after the game. Everybody knew they were 60 ing to throw again, with time running out. That fellow who caught the ball simply moved so fast that my defenders couldn’t catch up.” Nolan Scores for Miami. Bob Nolan. left end. was the receiver. He took a perfect pass from Quarterback Mario Bono figlio a step ahead of Maryland’s Howard Dare. When John Bow added the placement it was TO. Miami, bearing a remarkable resemblance to an up-and-coming Army team which Gustafson once helped to coach under Red Blaik, more or less nailed it down late in the third period, after Boxold had intercepted a pass thrown by the Hurricanes other quarterback, Carl Garrigus. Boxold was doWned on his own 2-yard line, but he made an unfortunate call on the first Mary land play. 1t was a trap that sent Ronnie Waller off his right tackle and Waller was hit and sent bouncing back. Recovering his balance. Ronnie then tried to run wide and was tackled in the end zone by Halfback Jack Losch and Nolan. Only 2:15 was left in the period when Miami made 1t 90. Terps Finally Get Going. Maryland. which seemed to spend much of the balmy night kicking from it’s end zone, finally got going when the clock showed only 8 minutes left. An interception by Dave Nusz of a pass thrown by Garrigus on the Ter rapins’ 3, and the only roughing penalty of a decidedly clean game, enabled Maryland to stage a 97-yard march which culmimated when Dick Bielski plunged across the goal from a foot out. Bielski added the extra point (C~n NRADxyT ANTI Hz-- A Se
