Light Workouts On TapInSEC Light workouts and reflections on last Saturdays conflicts were the order of the day for most Southeastern Conference football camps Monday. Tennessee’s day was frightened by the return of ace tailback Jimmy Wade, absent for two weeks with knee injury. Trainer Mickey O’Briden said he should be able to tell in a day or two whether Wade will be ready to go against Alabama Saturday in Knoxville. Auburn’s x and Y teams read led for Georgia Tech. Coach Ralph Jordan said the Tigers offense has been as good as predicted, while defense has been a disappointment. Coach Bob Woodruff began regrouping his Florida team and replacing injured players. The game with Clemson caused injuries to several key men. Fullback NAL colin Hammack, quarterback Bob by Lance and guard Hubert Mar tin were listed as doubtful starters against Kentucky. The Gators had a light drill during a drizzling rain. Kentucky emphasized kicking and the first string worked on punt coverage and protection. The Wildcats had a punting average of only 14.3 yards against Auburn last week. Two of the three kicks were short; one car rled for only four yards. Georgia Tech, hoping to be at top strength for Auburn, allowed the first stringers to take it easy. Georgia’s usually glum Coach Wally Butts, happy with his teams victory over North Carolina last week, pronounced the Bulldogs the best defensively since 1850. They will have their first Southeastern Conference game Saturday against Vanderbilt. Butts said quarterback Dick Young, who plays behind Jimmy Harper, will be seeing more acton on the strength of his performance against the Tar Heels. Alabama avoided rough work work but took a close look at the freshman teams version of Tennessee’s offense. Quarterback Bart Starr was in sweat clothes Tackle Ed Culpepper, fullback Jerry Chiapparelli and Starr are not expected to go against the Vols. Coach Gus Tinsley of Louisiana State made key change. He shifted John Wood to starting left end, moving Sammy Murphy back to the second string. Mississippi honed its offense which Coach John Vaught said was disappointing against Wander. bilt. Downfield blocking was enphasized. Getting set for Miami with no injuries standing in the way, Mississippi State had light contact practice. Tulane workd hard and long. Tony Sardisco, Tommy Warner and Ronald Senac, all injured in the 14–0 loss to Mississippi State, are expected to be ready for Mississippi. Vanderbilt’s varsity players and reserves who got into action against Mississippi were given light day.
