LOS ANGELES, Sept. 25.- Football critics seemed agreed today that a University of South ern California sophomore half back, Jon Arnett, was the diff ference, and the Pittsburgh Panthers will be hard to handle this fall. Southern Cal turned back Pitt 27–7. last night, a margin that bellies the fact that Pittsburgh battled the heavily favored Trojams to a TT tie through three quarters. Arnett, a 183-pounder from Los Angeles who is a 24-foot broad jumper on the track team, scored three of the four Trojan touch downs and, with 118 yards gained, was the leading runner of the evening. Arnett scored the first three touchdowns for his team. He put the Trojans into a TO lead with a 2-yard smash. broke the TT tie with a brilliant 25-yard run off right tackle, and clinched things with a 1-yard punch for a 20–7 score. A 15-yard penalty for piling on set up the third Arnett score, and the man who was piled on just happened to be Arnett.
