Missouri Proves a Great Sur prise to Kansas. Eleven From Columbia Won by Score of Is to IL. JAYHAWKERS TOO SLOW SunfioWer Team Should Have Done More Kicking. Vast Crowd Out and Comfort able Gate Receipts. Kansas City, Nov. 2s-Seven thousand people saw the yellow and black of the Missouri Tigers go up in victory at Exposition park Thursday afternoon, while the red and blue ribbons of the Jayhawkers were trailed under a score of Is to II. The north bleacher was claimed largely by those who wore the Missouri colors. From distance this section of the crowd looked like a solid bank of faces and forms that had been splattered with yellow spots. There were long streamers of yellow and black, huge chrysanthemums of yellow, triangular flags borne on umbrellas and canes and bows of ribbon of every size. The strong-voiced boy with the mega phone sent a Tiger challenge roaring across the field, and it was answered viciously from. the south bleacher, where khe Kansas ‘.rOoters’‘ were banked high and feverishly anxious for the victory they confidently expected. The favorite yell of Missouri this year was not the old, snappy Tiger, Tiger, NJ S. u” but the slow spelling of the word Missouri with a most dolefuI falling infection on the last letter The individual who thought the game was called football because the feet that a kick started the fun. Breathless the 1000 people sat while a Kansas boy gave short run and sent the oblonS bag high in the air toward posts wrapped with colors of the two uni verSitieS. Then breath1esSneSS gave way to noise, for the game was on in earnest a Tiger caught the ball and was bounced upon though he had been trying to steal it, and the Kan sas players were officers determined to capture him. The feet of the scrambling players made a dull clatter ‘on the ground which had been marked with chalk for the purpose of measuring the progress of the teams as they surged back and forth. Short runs and heaps of heads and heels and putting bodies piled indiScriminately followed thick and fast. Finally a young gentleman named Vincent pleased his Kansas friends inn mensely by carrying the ball over the line nearest the south goal. The red and blue INDUCED in a first-class fit. Kansas loved Vincent, dirty and unattractive though he was. His play meant six points for Kansas provided Mr.. Jenkinson kicked the ball over the bar that connected the decorated posts. He did this with ease. Missouri felt that the same old story was being told again. But it was a Kansas City boy who pushed the clouds away and let the yellow shine through. After an other lineup and a deal of hot playing and running and reckless tunbline Forester carried the ball past the Kan sas goal line and McCaslin. few moments later. kicked the ball between the posts and tied the score. At the end of 80 minutes the players rested for awhile. Then they were called out again and the battle was renewed- Forester of Kansas City made another lunge over the Kansas line, and after the ball had been kicked over the goal the score was II to 6. The joy of the Tigers supporters was more intense a short time later when pushed over the Kansas line for his third touchdown. A goal was kicked and Missouri felt that the day was hers, for the score was Is to 6. When Kan saS bucked her way into the Tigers territory short time later and made SIX points by sending Vincent over the line the wearers of the yellow were not frightened, for they knew that the time keeper would soon raise his hand and stop the play. And that is what happened- While the teams were at the center of the field, struggling for all they were worth. The shadows of even ing were falling when the signal came Friends of the victorious Tigers scrambled into the field to congratulate them but the players were hustled off to their carriages. Playter, Missouri player whose col lar bone had been broken as the result of being beneath pile of heavyweights, had been taken to his hotel The tired and injured boys limped and hobbled as they left the field. From some noses scratches and a Kansas player suffered cut that caused his eyebrow to hang far over his eye. Every hero, defeated or victorious. was black with the dust That had risen in clouds whenever a play was made. The lobby of the Midland was packed until the hour for the theater Coach Murphy and as many members of the team as could be captured were car ried on shoulders, dumped upon the counter where the register is and COM PEELED to speak Every speech was cheered and the yells of fraternities rang through the corridors in answer to the varsity cry of triumph AT the Coates House, the Kansas headquarters, the yell of the Jayhawker was not silenced. but there were no wild demonstrations.
