Sub Back Sparks Middies To TT Moral Win at Penn PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 25. - Steve Schoderbek, whose principal assignment in three years of football at Navy has been to initiate Maryland’s Jack Scar bath in practice, did a good job of it at Franklin Field today as thes Midshipmen came from behind in the third quarter to get a TT draw with Penn in the 37th renewal of football rivalry dat ing back to 1888. The tie was huge upset and a moral victory for the battered Middies, who entered the game seven-point underdogs and spent most of the afternoon battling the burly Quakers deep in Annapoils territory. 1t also put them in a class with Notre Dame. in a manner of speaking, for the Irish and Penn fought to TT standoff here in the first game of the season. Navy and Notre Dame meet next Saturday in Cleveland. Schoderbek. who scored two touchdowns against Yale earlier in the year but had seen little action since, transformed the bungling. listless Crabtown crew into an aggressive, hard-hitting unit that almost handed Penn its first defeat of the season. Unheralded and almost unknown, he lived up to his Hero Avenue home address, emerging as the days leading ground gamer with a net of SO yards on % trips with the ball. Navy’s offense stalled without him. And when Tom Hamilton’s punting was far below par. Navy found itself in an embarrassing fix. Navy crossed midfield only once in the first half. with Schodcrhnk of tho throttle ond hloyJ
