.27-0Loss in 81 Top Feat, .1ins|ey Claims Present Team. Better Than Last Yeor, but Poor Against Georgia Louisiana State won seven games and tied one last year on an 11-game schedule, yet Gaynell Tinsley. the Tigers first alumnus coach, still terms his teams 27-O defeat by Maryland as its best technical performance of the season. The Tigers play Maryland Saturday in the Terps’ home coming game. Tinsley backed up his opinions on the 1851 Terps by picking them to beat Tennessee by three touch downs in the Sugar Bowl. The margin was two. Tinsley said his team made few mistakes against the Terps, but simply was overpowered. A keep play by Maryland’s Jack Scarbath broke the game open midway in the second period after 2O-odd minutes of the toughest opposition encountered by the Terps all season. Coach Tinsley and his 43-man squad will arrive here tomorrow Afternoon by plane and will make headquarters at the Willard Hotel. This will be LSU’s first visit TO Washington. Stronger This Year. With 27 sophomores on this years squad. Louisiana State has IA better club than last year despite three defeats in it’s first five games. Couldn’t Get Team Up. Last weeks 27–14 defeat by Georgia is the one that hurt the Maryland game buildup. Jim Corbett, LSU’s publicity man, speaking for Tinsley yesterday, described it this way: Coach says we had just played four tough games, two straight on the road, and all of the teams we had played looked better on paper than Georgia. And with the Maryland game coming up the following week. we just couldn t stir up any enthusiasm to play Georgia” Corbett added that Wally Butts, the Georgia coach, said the LSU game was his teams best performance in five years. NOTES-This will be the first Iof three straight homecoming games for LSU. The Tigers play lat Mississippi next week and Ten nessee in their own homecoming (See MARYLAND, Page C-3)
