Middies Whip Cornell, 31–7. In Game With Is FumbIes Today proved to be a field day for the linemen. especially Navy’s and a 21-year-old guard from Sheffield, Pa, named Steve Eisenhauer appeared to be the most heroic. When he wasn’t blocking a punt he was recovering loose footballs and when the Big Red ball carriers strayed anywhere near his domain he slapped them down. Eisenhauer wasn’t the only Navy standout. There were Jack Perkins and Herb Tiede, too, but Ike was No. /. It was Eisenhauer who contrib uted largely to Navy’s quick lead When Jaeckel fumbled on the first play after the opening kickoff Perkins of Navy recovered on the Big Red 10-yard line. But then Bob Cameron of Navy fumbleo and it was Cornell’s ball on its one-yard line. Falls on Ball for Score. Marv Anderson attempted to punt behind an intricate protective formation but Eisenhauer blocked it and John Gurski, Navy end and captain, fell on the ball in the end zone for touchdown Snyder, a flawless kicker, added the first of all successful extra points to make it TO. Navy had the punting of young Tom Hamilton on it’s side, several of his kicks going into the end zone. The average yardage of this son of one of Annapolis greatest athletes wasn’t impressive, but shortly after the first touchdown Hamilton kicked dead on Cornell’s u and this boot set up the second score by the midshipmen. Anderson. unblocked this time but no superb punter, returned a kick only to his own “a. Unable to muster touchdown power Navy asked Snyder for a fielC goal and the young man from Lafayette, Ind, obliged with a &C. yarder, Bob Raster holding. This made it 100. The midshipmen were far sharp. er in the first half, as far al scoring opportunities were con. cerned,. than in the second. Two plays after the next kickoff
