  DALLAS, Nov. ,s3.-Southerr Methodist’s once-terrific passing attack backfired today and Texas rolled to a 20–⁠13 victory to keep its hopes alive in the Southeast Conference football title race. Twice the Longhorns cashed in on pass interceptions for touch downs and they used q Southern Methodist tumble for another. Both Of the interruptions lead ing to scores were of Fred Ben ners. the great passer who downed Notre Dame. A crowd Of $4,000 jammed the Cotton Bowl for the SMU home coming struggle. They saw South ern Methodist very impotent in the first half and feared the game would be q rout. But In the third period SMU came alive for two quick touchdowns and 1t was a ball game to the end. Val Joe Walker. the sMU track star defensive halfback. took a punt back “a yards for touch down. Southern Methodist started out passing on virtually every down but surrendered two touchdowns in the first quarter as a result. Don Barton gathered in a Benners aerial and ran to the SMU 35. The Longhorns scored on a “a yard burst over left tackle by Glib Dawson. June Davis missed the conversion. Bob Raley then in tercepted a Benners throw on the Texas 38. slanted 81 yards to a touchdown and Davis extra point kick was true. The third Texas touchdown came after Southern Methodist
