Stanford Gets Scare, Beats Oregon, 27–2O PORTLAND, Ore, Sept. o. Smoke and ashes from Oregon forest fires drifted over the grid iron, but unperturbed Stanford drove to a 27–20 victory over Oregon in a Coast Conference opener here today. Fumbles, however, bothered Stanford no end and Oregon got off to a TO lead before Stanford could get going. In fact. Oregon was stronger than anyone anticipated and gave Stanford a scare down to the last minute. In the long run, though, Stanford power and Gary Kerkorian’s fine passing arm provided the margin of victory. Kerkorian passed to two touchdowns and handed of to halfback Harry HUI gasian for a surprise pass and an other touchdown.
