0’Rourke and HoIoyak In Running for Myers Boston College Post BOSTON, Nov. 22.-Iowan Den ny Myers, an intercollegiate foot ball coach of the extremely rare optimistic breed, and Boston Col lege have agreed to part company after next weeks game with Holy Cross. Both parties announced last night that Myers contract. which was dated through the 1851 season, had been abrogated by mutual consent. John P. Curley, Boston Colleges graduate manager of athletics, refused to discuss a report Myers had been assured next years sal ary, said to be $12,500. He quits December 2. While Myers rounds out his seven-year head coachship by try ing to prime his winleSs Eagles for Holy Cross more polished forces, Boston College committee will be listing possible requirements to submit to the institutions president, the Very Rev. William l. Keleher, S. j. Holovak’s Teams Unbeaten. Such former Boston College stars as Mike Holovak, Charlie ORourke, Joe Zabilski and Eddie Doherty are considered outstanding possibilities, along with Ford ham product Joe McArdle. Holovak, 1912 all-America full back, has directed the Boston Col lege freshmen through undefeated seasons this year and last O’Rourke now serves under DIR Eddie Anderson at Holy Cross. zabilski has turned in an i’m preSsive head coaching record at nearby Northeastern. McArdle was the BIC line coach under Frank Leahy in 1939-40 and accompanied the latter to Notre Dame. Doherty has done well as coach of Arizona at Tempe. Alumni Applied Pressure. Boston College was rated as one of the Nations strongest football powers when Leahy left here, after directing the Eagles to a 1913 victory over Tennessee in the 1941 Sugar Bowl game. Then Myers took over the BC reins. He boasted his 1912 team ran the T-formation better than the Chicago Bears” 1t clicked off eight wins and then was the victim of the seasons most shock ing upset, a 55–12 defeat by a SUBJ normal Holy Cross team. While Myers seven BIC teams were setting an overall record of 35 victories, 26 defeats and four ties, he was under terrific alumni pressure. But he ignored all criticism until last Saturday night. after watching Villanova upset his youngsters, 29–7. Then he suggested to Rev. Maurice v Dullea, faculty moderator OF athletics, that a 1851 coaching change was necessary.
