Quarterback Rivals Clash Anew As Yale Beats Holy Cross, 74–73 NEW HAVEN. Conn, Oct. 2s.- Two lads who fought it out at Rochester. N. Y. as schoolboys for the quarterback Job renewed their battle in the Yale Bowl today and Jim Ryan won over Chuck Maloy as Yale defeated Holy Cross, IA to 13. If ever two youngsters dominated a college football contest, it was the two graduates of Rochester Aquinas Institute. Ryan, who beat out Maloy for the post, tailed both of the winners touchdowns, while Maloy figured prominently in the two Holy Cross tallies. When it was over, the plucky lads rushed toward each other for a hug and handshake while the crowd of 10000 cheered. The teams registered a touch down each in the opening and third quarters. and John Bush’s conversion after the second score proved the all important point. OF course. Ryan and Maloy received valuable lifts from their teammates but without them, Yale and Holy Cross looked poor. Maloy, one of the Nations leading passers, completed IA out of “a for 1875 yards. That brought his seasons record to GA successful pitches out of 1873 attempts for a total yardage of 1899. One Of Maloy’s passes today went for a touchdown, bringing his aggregate to 10. While Ryan completed only three out of nine for 81 yards he carried the ball seven times for 20 yards including the two touch downs. Maloy plowed Is yards in five rushes. Eclipsed by Ryan and Maloy was some fine work by Yale’s Bob Spears and Joe Finnegan and the Crusaders Joe Mikutowicz, Ma loy’s ace receiver, and Bill De Chard, a power in defense. Aerials dominated the Tall first half. Ryan sent Yale in front by rushing over from the one-foot line in 8:48. 1t climaxed a 68yard attack featured by two key passes from Ryan to Ends Hal Woodsum and Capt. Brad Quackenbush.
