.GW 0verconfidence Against VPI Friday Feared by Rowland Coach Bo Rowland of George Washington thought 1t would never come to this. but he may have to guard against overconfidence in Friday nights game against VPI at Griffith Stadium. The Colonials, after their open ing loss to Virginia, have taken VPI and West Virginia and will be favored to make it three in a row over a Virginia Tech eleven that has lost to Quantico Marines, 61–21, and to Virginia, 45–6. CIV lost to Virginia, 1870. This was supposed to be the year Virginia Tech picks itself UP off the floor and starts going places in the Southern Confer ence. although it does face a murderers’ row schedule. Coach Rowland has scouting reports that indicate it is a potentially strong team that should win as soon as it starts playing some one on an equal footing. and Rowland is afraid this is the week the Gobblers might start clicking. Assistant Coaches Bo Sherman, Roger Antaya and Tony Cavallo have secuted the Gobblers for the Colonials and all agree that VPI hasn’t played up to it’s potential yet. They particularly warn Colonial players to be wary of Sterling Wingo, the speed boy from Rich mond who Is playing his fourth year with the varsity. Antaya calls him the fastest runner in the Southern Conference” and said he is afraid the CIV players will be chasing him all night. Even with the Gobblers’ poor season last year Wingo was a standout, aver aging 8 yards for the 81 times he carried the ball. Another Gobbler the Colonials must stop is Ron Castro at end. He’s a 6-foot-2, 190-pounder who was the teams high scorer last year and who caught % passes for a total of 359 yards. Other outstanding backs in addition to Castro, the CIV scouts say, are Bruce Fisher and Bill Starks. quarterbacks, and Eustace Frederick, a 190-pound fullback. The latter, nicknamed useless, scored his teams first touchdown of the season last year against Maryland the second time he car ried the ball.
