WATERBURY, HIGHS HIk Bristol Team No Match For the Local Boys. Waterbury H. s. and the Bristols Failed to Score-Other Football Games Played Saturday Afternoon. The Bristol High school aggregation of football players were disastrously defeated by the Waterbury High school eleven at the Athletic field 0n Saturday afternoon. They were no match for the local eleven and the home players had no difficulty ln plunCing through the lines, in skirting the ends, and in rolling up a score of fhirry-two points The score would have been about twice as large if the local management hadn’t felt a deep sympathy for the Bristol boys and placed an entire new eleven with the exception of one man 1n the field ln the second half. Twenty-seven points were scored in the first half, while only one was scored in the second half. The Bristol team was miserably weak. In the first half it was case of the locals getting the ball and scoring touchdown in three or four minutes, without losing the ball not more than once and sometimes not at all. In the second half the teams were more even- ly Eatched and only one touchdown was made. A few comments about the Water bury team will not be out of place. 1t is n undisputed fact that the team will have to greatly improve if they wish to win the New Britain cup. They played fairly well Saturday, but viTl and dash were lacking in the play. The signals should be given more quickly: the interference is not what it should be At the ends Cleland has a bad habit of not taking care of his man. He lets him slip by and get around behind the interference too often. He will be given a hard rub for the position by Shannahan. who played a star game in the second half. His tackling was Al. Flannagan ought to be permanent fixture at the other end. He has something to learn in rrnning with the ball. Schick, Bauby and Butterly, the center trio, played their opponents. Wheeler is also |; good man for center. Mahaney is goo6i at tackle, but Daly will give Gardner a hard rub for the other tackle. Culhane will make quarter easily, while Walker and Cook will make good ha1fbackS. Walker is as good haIfback as was ever on the team- He is a very heady and tricky player. McDonald is a good man also. odUDy may l1dk0 SOOu WILL DOTc practice. Johnson and Thompson will have q pretty race for quarterback, but if is doubtful if their work, even If greatly improved, will equal that nf Byrnes, fullback on last years team. New Haven, Oct 7.-Yale is getting reputation for playing some pretty poor football. The exhibition with Amherst was nothing worse than ili- effective; the game Saturday with Tufts was sloppy. It broke down Yale’s hopes for going through her minor games without allowing a minor college to cross her goal line. All the trouble came after Yale had taken out most of the veterans and was trying QUE some green men in the second half. The lineup: Yale. Positions. Tufts. Gould-Swan = left end ....
