VICTORY FOR SONS Of Eli ORANGE AND BLACK OF PRINCE TON Is TRAILED IN THE DUST – WISCONSIN BEATS CHICAGO Madison Team Went Through Their Opponents Line Almost at WiIl-Games on Many Fields. PRlNCEETON, N. j., Nov. H.-Princeton wound up the most disastrous foot bali season in the history of the uni Versity at dusk this evening, losing her annual game TO Yale, by the score Of % to s. Never has an orange and black eleven been so Inundated. Yale has rolled up larger scores, but never has she shown her supreme strength in such | marked degree as she did this afternoon. | There was only one phase of the game in which Princeton exceeded, and that was in kicking. Maths, the Princeton full back. easily outpointed Yale. To show PrincetOn’s utter weakness It | is but necessary to say that during the | seventy minutes of play the orange and black made only two first downs, and | those were within ten minutes of the close of the game, when Princeton took a temporary brace. The Tigers linemen were beaten back | battered, and trampled upon in manner that must have made the hearts of the old soldiers of old Nassau bleed with sympathy. Both teams played cleanly, but YaIes superior strength and better condition enabled her to score a comparativ easy victory. But with all the distress ing circumstances connected with the Princeton Waterloo the undergraduates in the cheering section never faUItered. With cheer and song they urged their eleven on, even when all hope of vic tory must have been abandoned by Capt. Pail. When the timekeeper’s whistle blew, announcing the cessation of hos tilities, the boys in the cheering section stood UP and with barred heads sang “Old Nassau” There We’re not more than 1900 persons at the game. Many seats in the south stand were unoccupied when play began. There was a tiresOme wait for the appearance of the rival combatants 1ale’s football suits had been sidetracl1ed at Princeton Junction, and the blue lads were waiting to complete their toilettes. During the interim the rooters in the rival sections exchanged complimentary cheers 1t was 2:35 before the two elevens came on the field, and ten minutes later the trouble began. CHICAGO OVERWHELMED. Made Only One Touchdown, While Wisconsin Scored 30 Points. CHICAGO, Nov. 17.-Wisconsin. playing the fastest football seen here this season, simply overwhelmed the University Of Chi cago eleven on Marshall Field this after noon, defeating them by a score of SO to 5. Wisconsins goal line was not crossed, the five points scored by the Maroons being the result of overeagerness on the part Of the Wisconsin linesmen, who charged Sheldon when the latter had signaled for fair catch Of punt. This gave Chicago free kick on Wisconsin’s sixteen-yard line, and the ball sailed squarely between the goal posts. But this ended Chicago’s interest in the game so far as scoring was concerned, the Wisconsin line not being threatened again. Only three times. in fact, did Chi cago make the necessary five yards during the game. During the first half the Maroons, bruised and out of condition as they were, played much faster football than they have here tofore, and once showed fash of their old-time form when they held the charging. plunging Wisconsin players for downs on their ten-yard line, after Wisconsin had carried the ball nearly seventy yards by line plunges and end plays that Chicago seemed utterly unable TO stop. Wisconsin played lightning fast football. Chamberlain and Curtis, Leerum and Riordan opened big holes I’m the Maroon line, through which the Cardinals backs tore for gains of three to ten yards, while Cur tbs and Eddie Cochems several times skirted Chicago’s ends for twenty and twenty-five yard gains. Not once was trick play used. 1t was straight football, line bucks and end runs behind perfect in reference, with every man in the play un- I’ll down was called, and in the second half the Maroons, played to a standstill by the herceness of Wisconsin’s attack in the first half, were showed backward for touchdown after touchdown. When the referees whistle blew $500 cheering, shouting Wisconsin rooters poured out into the field, picked up the members of their team and, headed by the varsity Band, paraded up and down the gridiron to the tune of Hot Time” The teams lined up as follows:
