Kansas Lost to Nebraska by Score Of I2 TO o. Crippled Jayhawkers ] Did Bet ter Than Expected. SCORE WAS A SURPRISE The Visitors Scored But Twice in Fifty Minutes. Lincoln Eleven Now Decides Not to Play Washburn. Lawrence. Kan, Nov. 19-The walk away which the football prophets had in advance awarded to the Nebraska eleven- was not forthcoming when the Corn Huskers met the Kansas JayhawkeTs on McCook field Saturday afternoon The Nebraskans defeated the Kansas universitv team. by a score of u to 0, but their victory was not an easy one The Jay hawkers gave the men from Lincoln lively 20 minutes, despite the fact that they I IRE crippled by the loss OF TUCK er Odte and Morton, and handicapped by the injuries which Captain Wilcox and Algie bore through the game HAD X U. been able to put on the held the team of a fortnight ago, Coacn Booth men might have carried home their nrSt defeat. AS it was only few attempted trick plays on the part of the kansans saved the-Corn Huskers their boast OF a goal line never crossed The game was principally a line buck ing contest Quarterback kicks were used occasionally to advantage, out Kansas soon found that Quigley or Cop ping with a. tackle over and JenklnSon terrific plungeS were what counted, while the Corn Huskers learned that the Kansas line could be aSsa1led TO more advantage than the ends. Both the lines were weak on the defensive and strong on offense. The linemen were pretty closely matched, although the corn HuskerS were several notcheS ahead OF the Kansans- The work Of the Nebraskans showed experience, while the playing of few of the JayhaWkers smacked very much of the novice. Neck hugging and tack les waist high were some of the modes employed by the Kansas players to bring down their men. The Hnemen were the guilty ones on each occasion. Then the Nebraska ends on punts by K. U. had a trick Of tangling up Hart and Algie, thus delaying them in getting down the field. Coach Booths backs on the offensive all take the Sprinters start, a scheme which enabled them to strike the line very low and hard. The game was remarkably free from waits, but little time being taken out i’ll either half and but few men being in jured Kansas lost one man, Breese. whose knee gave out early in the first half He was succeeded by Hart. Capt. Wilcox of K. u. though injured. lasted the game out, while Pouppit and Shrant, contrary to expectation, played the whole 80 minutes and came out still fun of fight Botsford kicked off for X u and CTandafl OF Nebraska was stopped well back in his territory with the ball Ne braska kicked out OF danger and K. u secured the ball and advanced it down the field, using tackles, back plays and the five men interference. The Corn Huskers could not stop the rushes of the K u backs and the ball was showed clear down to their ten yard line, but there they rallied. The K U. rooters crowded behind the goal line were shouting Come on, Kansas” but Kan sas at the critical moment couldn’t come Nebraska secured the ball on down and rushed it out of their territory by a fierce attack on the JayhaWkers, line Then once again Kansas took the ball End runs and bucks pushed the ball down the field until Botsford tried a quarterback kick. The Jayhawker halves failed 20 get the ball and it went into the possession of their opponents This time Nebraska held it and fought its way through the Kansas line for a touchdown. The first half closed short ly after K. u. had kicked off. The second half was more exciting than the first. The teams surged back and forth. line bucks being used to advantage by both sides. once the ball
