Wheezing Yale Beats Little Connecticut In ‘Breather,’ 10 NEW HAVEN, Conn, Oct. O. Yale, heavy favorite. barely defeated stubborn University of Connecticut eleven 7 to 0, in the Yale Bowl today before $4,000. 1t was supposed to have been a breather for the Ellis, but they were hufflng and putting at the finish. The only score of the hard-fought battle came with 65 seconds to play in the third period. 1t was sharp pass which covered IA yards, Tex Furse to Levi Jackson, and caught the Uconns by surprise. Furse set it up smartly. Bill Booze converted. Except for that, it was Yale that was surprised good part of the afternoon by the Upstate small college lads making their first appearance here. Lots of credit, for Connecticut’s brilliant exhibition belongs to a spectacular kicker, Leo Pinsky, and a speedy scatback, 153-pound Don Ross. Pinsky’s punting kept the Ellis off balance at critical moments, and Ross running proved pesky to the Ivy Leaguers. Connecticut missed its best opportunity on the opening kickoff play when George Blueher fell on Bob Rains tumble on Yale’s seven. But, the Uconn’s Bill Moll dupli- Gated on the next play and Yale’s Bill Conway recovered on the five That was that. until later in the first session another tumble hurt Yale This one, by jackson, oc- Cured on the goal line, at the end of 78-yard parade. Other excitement occurred in the final period when Yale, trying desperately to uphold its dignity. became too anxious. Booze missed a field goal from the 80 early in the quarter. Then, with five minutes left, penalties nullified two jaunts across the Uconn goal line, one a 32-yard run by Jackson and immediately afterWard 39-yard pass by Jackson to Dan Wagster. From a statistical standpoint Yale had big edge with 10 first downs to only three for Connecticut, and 233 yards rushing to the Uconn’s SO. CONNECTICUT. Ends-De zeno, Schmidt. Blake, Hazel. Robb.
