Terps, in First Home Game, Rule Choice Over GobbIers University of Maryland’s football team shows its wares to the home folk for the first time this season when 1t goes against Virginia Tech tomorrow afternoon at Griffith Sta diuln. Game time is o’clock, and the TerrapinS, unscored on in two games, are heavy favorites over the Gobblers who haven’t scored yet in two games. The rivalry between these two teams usually produces close game. and the Terps have been warned not. to expect a pushover. Coach Bob McNeish has been working this week 10 perfect the Gobbler passing attack built around Bruce Fisher, sophomore from Bedford, Pa. Fisher looked great in practice sessions last spring and this fall, but in actual competition hasn’t clicked consistently with his tosses. He’s gained some valuable experience, however, and is due for some good days before the season is much older. McNeish thinks Fishers $3.50 showing thus far can be blamed on poor protection, and much time this week has been spent trying to i’m prove it. Other backfield standouts for the Gobblers are Chip Collum and Ralph Beard. Collum has been Techs best runner so far this season, but Beard may be ready to break out now. He was hurt early in the first game against George Washington but looks okay now for return to his 1916 INCREASING form. Techs line has at least one star IN Tackle Jack Ittner, Junior who is big, fast and aggressive. Punting is handled expertly by Bob Gilley. Maryland will counter with its well-balanced team that so far owns a 1910 win over Richmond and 21–0 win over Delaware. 1t has number of dangerous ball carriers led by Right Halfback Vern Seibert and Fullback Harry Bonk, plus an excellent passing attack handled mostly by Quarterback. Vic Turyn. It’s line will outweigh Techs, al though Tackle Jim Goodman, biggest man there at 240 pounds, probably will sit out because of injuries. The Terrapins were favorites in 194S and last year, as they will be tomorrow, but had trouble winning both times. In 1916 the Gobblers came within one inch of a score on the last play and thought they made 1t, but officials ruled otherwise and Maryland squeezed through with a 60 victory. Last year Maryland trailed, 1877, going into the final frame and pulled the game out of the fire behind Turyn’s passing to win, 21–19.
