  COLLEGE FOOTBALL NEW YORK, Sept. 2o-IR-Al- most everybody gets into the act this week m the toughest set of September football games in history. Ire traditional early season ‘‘breather” definitely is thing of the past when the first full weekend of action offers such att fractions as Navy–California, Pur- due -Notre-Dame and Texas–North Carolina. And there are many more. The season actually opened, piece meal fashion, last weekend. Villa nova showed surprising power in stopping Texas A. and M, 34-l4 at Philadelphia. Two otter Texas teams had better luck The Uni vers;ty of Texas Longhorns smoth- cred Louisiana State 330, and Tex as Christian edged Kansas, 14–⁠13, in 90 degree heat at Lawrence. On the West Coast California poured it on Santa Clara, 41–⁠19, and Oregon steamrollered Santa Bar bara, 55–⁠7. UCLA tegan it’s Pacific Coast conference season with a 48–⁠27 vic- tory over Washington State while Oregon State beat Idaho, 27–⁠12. Stanford won it’s first game in two years, downing San Jose State with last quarter furry, 26–⁠20
