Sunday posNort Carolina Peak Routing Virginia 4O7 Justice Runs Rampant, 0utgaining Entire Cavalier Team stor stoff Correspondent. CHAPEL HILL, N. c.. Nov. 29.- If the Orange Bowl officials had a second guess-and North Carolina wishes they did-you’d probably find the Tar Heels in Miami on New Year Day. The bid that Carolina expected to receive will not be forthcoming because other teams were selected yes terday, but they’re saying down here that the Tar Heels are the best team In the country today and they Ger tainly looked terrific this afternoon in routing the University Of VIZ ginia, 40 to 7. An unexpected turnout of more than 10000 watched the SD renewal Of one of the South’s oldest gridiron rivalries, but Virginia did not have the manpower to make it q contest as the Tar Heels rode to their seventh straight triumph. Charley Justice. making belated bid for the All-America honors expected of him, outgained the entire Virginia team in his most dazzling exhibition of the season. He scored two touchdowns-one of them as pass received. His rushing yard age was al yards, he picked up 78 on punt returns and showed 80 yards gained in passing. His punting average was a highly respectable 43 yards. Justice is beautiful runner. If blockers are handy, he can pick the right man to follow but If not he finds holes and actually runs lot farther than his yardage shows as he weaves and cuts cross field. And the Tar Heels wisely used Charley as a decoy. springing excellent running backs such as Hosea Rodgers, Walt Pupa, Jim Camp or Johnny Glenn eIits loose when Justice was covered. For Virginia. it was a rude ending to a season that showed great prom ise when the Cavaliers rode the crest of a six-game winning streak. The humiliating loss today was their third in the last four games. There was even a Carolina background to the only Virginia touchdown as George Grimes. who scored from five yards out to climax 79-yard drive late in the fourth quarter, played for Carolina several years ago. Grimes also added the point. Fumbles Opening Kickoff. Fumbles, Virginia jinx that hit the Cavaliers in the Penn game and stuck close ever since, started handicapping the Cavaliers when the game was only seconds old. Carl Elliott of Virginia fumbled the opening kickoff return and Mike RUBBISH recovered for Carolina on the Virginia a.. The Tar Heels drove to their first touchdown without losing the ball, with Pupa on the payoff punch for the score. Bob Cox added the first of four conversions. Carolina drove u yards to its second touchdown, with Clements the point maker from 10 yards out on a reverse that was befuddling the Cavaliers all day.. It was q sprint around the weak side, with the fullback handing the ball to the ball carrier from Carolina’s single wing formation. Too often, Virginia linemen dived for the empty-handed fullback.. Justice turned pass receiver tomake 1t 200 at half time as he was way ahead of Virginia’s secondary In taking pass from Rodgers on a play that covered % yards. Justice Makes 4th. The fourth touchdown was mostly a Justice production as be went 55 yards with a punt return and finally scored standing up from the S. Camp made the fifth on the favorite reverse play on an 18-yard sprint and the last was a Bill Maceyko to Ken Powell pass that covered II yards and featured q nice run by Powell. The Carolina line, or lines, turned virginia back outside OF the Carolima Is except on the Cavaliers touchdown drive. Grimes was Virginia’s best bet on the ground in addition to doing some great kicking. Grover Jones, Bill Bailey and Ray Brown made first down gains spasmodically. Virginia undoubtedly missed its regular split T quarterback, Joe McCary, who had q bad ankle. The longest pass of the day was an aerial from Billy Hayes. Washing tons outstanding scholastic back two years ago from Washington and Lee High. He connected for a 50-yard gain, all in the air, to Johnny Tandy.

But before time for the speech to be delivered, the University of North Carolina Tar Heels defeated Virginia 40 to 7 before 10000 fans in Chapel Hill. So when the faculty meeting was held, Childers made a speech about wild animals he had seen while hunting big game in Africa.
