1erp 0verconfidence Feared by Coaches In Richmond Game Both University of Maryland and University of Richmond are busy losing in advance the football game they’ll play Friday night at College Park. Maryland is worried about overconfldence and concerned over the possibility of Richmond suddenly turning into the kind of team 1t was supposed to be this year. Richmond reports injuries to key players in both the line and back field. The Spiders haven’t been able to get going this year. They have pretty much the same team they had last year when they turned in a 6-2-2 record, and were supposed to pe better. Included was a 37–7 win over a favored Maryland eleven. This year the Spiders started with a 28.7 victory over Randolph Macon, and then the roof fell in. Washing ton and Lee won, 1873, and last week Rollins trounced them, 20–7. Outgained w. and LIS Team. Houston Elder, assistant Maryland coach, has been scouting the Spiders, and probably only Johnny Fenlon, their coach, knows more about them “They should have beaten Wash ington and Lee” says Elder. ‘‘They outgained them and outdowned them. 1t was the heat that beat them down at Rollins. Never saw it 80 hot. Steam was coming right out of the backs of those Richmond players. “They have the finest set OF backs I’ve ever seen. Ralston Is q terrific fullback, 100 pounds, 6-foot-1, throws well, runs in all directions, good line bucker. They’ve got two good tackles, and Curtis, a guard, Is fine extensively and defensively. Jones, their center, is a terrific back erupper. They’ve couple OF half backs we have to watch, particularly Billingsley; he’s q ball Of fire In the open field. It’s great running and passing team” Two Linemen Injured. From Richmond, reports are that two big linemen, Carroll Richard and Guss Guliek, are injured and not playing. Among the injured backs are Cotton Billingsley and Charlie Suttenf1eld with injured knees. Also a blow to the Spiders was this weeks Southern Conference ruling that Vernon T. Morgan, freshman all sports star, was ineligible because he signed a New York Giants base ball contract. Maryland coaches are worried that the Old Liners record, 1913 over South Carolina ana 1919 over Del aware, may make the players over confident. The players may be think ing of Duke next week instead OF Richmond this week.
