Many Startling Upsets Leohy, Like Other Projectors, Happy He Escaped With Life flashy Engineers continued toward top ranking nationally with a convincing 200 victory over Tulane. Michigan’s crushing 49–13 defeat of Stanford just about taps the Wolverines for, the Rose Bowl. In the final game Of 1916, Michigan crushed Ohio State, 58–6. They led of this season with q $50 rout of Michigan State. That’s power, any way you look at 1t. Harvard’s 1914 victory over Boston University stamps this years Crimson as a very representative ball club indeed. The Terriers are a determined group and are definitely on the upsurge, but Harvard put over the clincher with Emil Drvaric’s 27-yard field goal late in the third period. Sounds like old times at Cam bridge. Lou Little’s Columbia Lions again came off the deck after trailing Navy by a touchdown midway in the second period to win, 1876. If Lou does 1t with mirrors I wish he’d tell me where I could purchase some of same. And before closing shop for the day I’d like to congratulate Mike Milligan for the really outstanding job he did with his Pittsburgh Panthers in the first half against us. We came on to win, 40–6, but the pay-off scoring took place in the final half. Milligan’s men taught us lesson In the first half, I hope we’ll remember. Some Of the teams we picked last Saturday must be still run ning-in the wrong direction but as soon as the returns come in from all precincts we promise to let you know the results. Yankees Clip Dodgers, FL; Duke Wins; UNC Beaten Tar Heel grid fans were both gleeful and gloomy today after results of yesterdays football clashes were all tabulated. The glee followed news that Wallace Wade’s Blue Devils of Duke were apparently much stronger than preseason reports had them, and had battered the Tennessee Vols by a 1877 margin. The gloom came when the Texas Longhorns, for some reason la beled an underdog in the pregame predictions, lambasted Charley Justice and his Tar Heel teammates by a lop-sided $40 margin. Wake Forest defeated Clemson 1914 and William and Mary trounced the Citadel 56–7. In other games throughout the nation, Georgia upset mighty Louisiana State by a 1918 score, Georgia Tech continued it’s win ming ways by defeating Tulane 200, Mississippi battered South Carolina $50, Army whipped Colorado 40, Notre Dame open ed it’s season by slugging Pitts burgh 1875, and Michigan slap ped down Stanford 49–13. The North Carolina State Wolfpack came out on the long end of a 40 score by downing a scrappy Davidson eleven. Other scores and results will be found on the sports page.
