Army 1rounces Slow Colorado |Handi|y,’47–0 WEST POINT, N. Y, Oct. A. Coach Earl Blaik and his Army foot ball team staged an experimental Saturday at the expense of big but numbering University of Colo RADIO squad today, entertaining a crowd of $1,000 by rolling up At too score. Blaik sent a total of 46 players into the game, including 18 backs Most of them gained ground through and over the bulky Colorado line, which was able to stop the Cadets only once. ElWyn (Rip) Rowan, who is try ing to fill Doc Blanchard’s place at fullback, was the only Cadet to score twice. He did it in the first quarter, when the Buffaloes still were putting up strong resistance, on long pass from Bill Gustafson. He repeated in the fourth on a 12-yard end run. Other touchdowns were made by Amos Gillette, Bert Atom, Bobby Stuart, Winfield Scott and Karl Kuckhahn Jack Mack null converted five times in seven attempts. Gustafson, the frst-string quarterback in the T formation, was used sparingly and Arnold Galiffa was given a strenuous workout at that position. August Dielens and Charley Gabriel were used at both quarter and halfback. | For the most part, Army used only two sets of linemen and after the first quarter they were able tc handle the big, but green Colorado forwards without much trouble. | At the outset, Army’s first drive was stopped foot short of a score and the Cadets didn’t ring up Their first points until Gustafson hio the ball behind his leg until he could heave 32-yard pass tc Rowan, who ran the last 4. After that, the roof slowly began to cave in on Colorado and it finally collapsed in the final quarter when the Cadets made three touchdowns tu1o Set I’m nv mass interceptiOnS

COLLEGE FOOTBALL UNDER WAY NEW YORK, Oct 6-lR-One of these days the folks who have been too busy following the World Series to notice college football are going to find that the grid season al ready is well under way and that the action to date has resulted in such impressions as these: 1.-Notre Dame, Michigan, Texas and Georgia Tech look like the teams most likely to battle it out for the mythical national crown. 2.-The title chase in the Pacific Coast Conference threatens to be the dizziest of them all 3.-Army refuses to roll over and play dead, even though Glenn Da- wis and Doc Blanchard are no longer on the premises Notre Dame. the nations No. l team in 1946, arrived on the scene Saturday and, although somewhat tardy picked right up where it left off last year by crushing Pitts burgh, 40–6. Michigan, which entertains Pitt Saturday, lambasted Stanford 49- l3, while Georgia Tech blanked Tu- lane, 20-O, and Texas trounced North Carolina, $40, running the Tar Heels bid for an l-victorious season with one of the outstanding performances of the day. On Pacific Coast Meanwhile. Washington State dumped Idaho, TO- and Oregon State stopped Washington, 14–7, in couple of surprises on the Pacific Coast while UCLA bowed to North western 27–26. Nevada upset Ore gon, 13–6. and Southern California was held to a tie by Rice, TT All of which makes California, originally tagged as an also ran on the Pacific Coast, look more and mere Ike the team to beat after its 45–6 runaway over St Mary’s. Army, unbeaten since 1943, waltz cd merrily along with a 47–0 breeze through Colorado, indicating that the Cadets are not going to be pushed around this year despite personnel losses. Army’s true strength will be test cd Saturday when the Cadets risk their 30-game undefeated record against Illinois, 35–12 conqueror of Iowa, at New York in the Easts foremost attraction.
