A crowd of some 10000 will squeeze into the park that Babe Ruth’s bat built to see the seasons top attraction and any one calling 1t a sellout would be guilty of unreinstatement. Off1cials say at least q million tickets could be sold at $3.50 a copy if they had the seats. Pennsylvania, upset by Princeton, I7–14, also plays in New York this week, leaving its home field for the first time in three years to meet Columbia, which was surprised by Cornell, 1910. ROSE BOWL RACE HOT ON COAST SAN FRANCISCO. Nov. 4-The race to the Rose Bowl now has become a two-team battle, just as West Coast football fans thought it would before the 1946 season opened. In the home stretch drive today it is University of California at Los Angeles out in front with Southern California just behind now beginning it’s real charge. As of last September most of the ex- perts thought it would be the other way aromd-the USC Tro- jans setting the pace and UCLA Bruins coming up Games this weekend should only tighten conditions and may offer interesting comparisons. For in- stance, the UCLA Bruins, unde- feated, meet Oregon at Portland. Oregon Whitewashed Last week in Los Angeles, Oregon bowed to Southern California by an overwhelming 43 to 0. The Trojans seem to have hit their stride, after faltering start. The League-leading Bruins already have proved their worth. But they will have to prove it again this Saturday in. the North, where Oregon, smarting under it’s first defeat will be out to make amends before a home state crowd. Southern California meanwhile has a big one coming up on its own field. The University of Cali fornia Bears will provide the op- position and if it is anything com parable to the brand of ball the Bears played in crushing Wash ington State last week the Trojans are in for the supreme test. Cali fornia rolled up a 47–14 count or WSC. Comparative scores fail as oftei as not as measuring stick but for such purposes it should bt pointed out that UCLA was haro pressed to win from California l3-t last month. What will Southern California do with California team that really plays knock down type of game? Wash. Meets Stanford Washington, idle last week, meets Stanford in another Coast Confer ence engagement at Palo Alto Stanford and Oregon State played a scoreless tie last Saturday. Another League contest sends Oregon State against Idaho ano OSC should have no difficulty ir dlsposing of the last place club Montana heat Idaho last week 19–0 The Santa Clara Broncos upset the University of San Francisco Dons 1913 yesterday.
