C0PHERS TRAMPLE WILDCATS, 30 TO 7 MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 90 P – Minnesota tried just about every thing the fertile brain of Bernie Bierman could think up to over V .ielm Northwestern, 30–7, before homecoming crowd of $4,000 today. Power plays deception and pass es took the Gophers down the field for four touchdowns after they had broken the scoring ice with a field goal from the educated toe of Halfback Merlin Kispert in the second period. Northwestern expert passing combination of Pitcher Jim Farrar and Catcher Max Morris accounted fol the Lone Wildcat counter and Kept the Gophers on their toes all the while. Morris grabbed one pass from Farrar to put the ball on the Cop her 48-yard line and then shared another one to gallon 25-yards and across the goal line midway in the second period. In a way, the Wildcats touch down was a fluke. There was a horn on the play because Min nesota was offside and the Gophers let up. Farrar passed with ease and Morris, patiently waiting and alone, snatched the ball and -scored unmolested. Farrar kicked the extra point. The Wildcats made serious scoring threat shortly after the third period opened. when Bob Nc Kinley, substitute right half, recovered a tumble on the Minnesota six-yard Line. A fourth down pass failed, however,, and Minnesota took the ball. The Minnesota attack was gear ed to the Bierman formula of hit ing ‘em in the middle and hitting ‘em hard. Only eight passes were attempted. Six were completed. Tommy Gates, who started at left half, and Vic Kulbitski, who came into the game at fullback, aided by Hudson Hockey Measley, accounted for most Of the Gophers gains on the ground. Dick Van Dusen, Gopher center, stood out on defense, intercepting two passes and smearing many of the. Wildcat ground plays. One of his interruptions set the stage for “a 58-yard touchdown march.
