Wolverines Brushing Up on Blocking Foee Mueh-Touted Minnesotons at Minneapolis ANN ARBOR, Mich, Oct. 6 -lP)-Driving for 100 per cent Improvement” in blocking, coach Fritz Crisler prepared today TO send his Michigan VOL verines through final tune-up drill shortly before they board an afternoon train for their Saturday football collision with Minnesota at Minneapolis. Crisler stressed blocking in practise all this week, pointing out that poor showing in that fundamental cost the Wolverines heavily in their 20 to 0 set back last week at the hands Of Indiana. TomorroW’s little brown jug tussle will be Minnesota’s first taste Of western conference rivairy this season. In two prev lous starts the Gophers, under the coaching wing of DR.. George HauSer, lost TO Iowa preflight but steamrollered to a 80 to 0 romp over Nebraska. Bill Barclay, who secuted the Gophers for Michigan last week, warned against Minnesota rushing attack that rolled up 364 yards against Nebraska in punches through the line. A blocking improvement in the Wolverine camp is imperative, Crisler said, pointing to the Gophers’ defensive feat of hold ing the corn-huskers to two first downs and a net l6 yards rush ing. Minnesota, which lost 1915 70 the Wolverines in 1943, will have a green but husky line and fine crop of promising backs 10 throw against Michigan tomorrow. Six letterman are in a probable starting Gopher lineup that includes seven Navy Viz trainees.
