Navy Beats Duke, 14–13. in Hot Game-And thus Cleveland gets what is calculated to be the top collegiate game Of the year when Navy and Notre Dame collide there at vast Municipal Stadium on October 80. for while Navy was establishing itself as the most re- Spected team in the East and South, the Irish were continuing to dominate the West by battering Michigan, 1912. Duke deserved a tie with the Mid dies. what with surging back in the final period to produce a touchdown in the final two minutes, but husky Bob CAN’T, one of the Nations bet ter athletes, couldn’t click on the most vital point after touchdown of his career. When his boot sailed wide of the uprights Navy scared to triumph. Back in March, George Washing ton University’s basket ball team entered the Southern Conference tournament final lightly regarded underdog to Duke, but Coach Otis Zahn Of the Colonials thought he had detected method of checking the Blue Devils. His instructions to Ed Gustafson and John KoniSzewski were to outmaneuver big Bob CAN’T under the basket and thus control the ball. Gustafson and Koniszewski did the job. They mauled CAN’T under the basket and GLstafson restricted Dukes high-scoring star to four points as G. w. won, 56–40. With baseball having day off last Saturday, Football took the spot light. While the Notre-Dame Michigan game was too onesided to be in teresting, the Navy–Duke encounter was a natural. It’s true that Navy squeezed through by virtue of the extra point after touchdown, (the score was 14–13), but they were at least one touchdown better. I believe that Navy has one of the best teams in the country and 1 am go ing to string along with them until they get knocked off (if they do). They meet the Fighting Irish on October &c. and that should tell the story.
