INTERCOLLEGIATE FOOTBALL REVIEW It was an expensive weekend for the betting men. Those unfortunate fellows who were playing the favor ties are so deep in the barrel today they can’t peek over its edge. The forward pass--patron saint of the underdog- again turned the tide of victory, not once but many times Dog -collared Cornell took the mea- sure of Yale’s up-and-coming fresh- men, Penn. succumbed to a once water-logged Navy eleven, unbeaten Wisconsin went down before the Samsonian line play of Iowa, Indi- ana turned back Minnesota, L. s. U., beat Fordham, and U. c. L. A., dropped its first conference game to Oregon. Up in Ithaca, far above Cayuga’s waters where fraternity-house pianos have been keeping a stiff but closed upper lip for the past six weeks, there is wild rejoicing over Cornell’s victory against Yale. The Big Red, trailing 7–6 with four minutes left in the game, uncorked one of those passes from midfield which are harder to catch than walters eye. But to the chagrin of all loyal Ellis, a lad whose name--D’Onofrio--haS never appeared in the social register, caught the pass and there wasn’t anything Yale could do about 1t. Final score: Cornell 13, Yale T. Farmer Tom Shrewd, saturnine Eddie Anderson, giant-killer of the Big Ten, who made his name at Holy Cross and his money at Iowa, enchanced his reputation by coaching his Hawk eyes past monolithic Wisconsin Tommy Farmer, no relation tc Fanny but a pretty sweet passer ir his own right, delivered the letha blow with 2l-yard forward pass to Burkett in the second period. There after, Iowa bottled up the mighty Harder Hirsch combination and left the Badgers feeling like General Grant without his liquor. In New York’s Yankee Stadium the Notre Dame backfield ran around more than the outfielders of the Tanks and Cards put together, but every time they came close to the Army goal line they stopped to consult their draft papers. The Fighting Irish were taking no chances on waking up next morning to find themselves in IA. At that, they were unable to control them selves on two occasions and walked off the field with a 13–0 victory. Navy, scuttled more than once this year, started suicidal second front movement against Penn and got away with 1t. Midshipman Hamberg threw a pass to Midshipman Martin who Intentionally stepped into the Penn end zone, and the ball game was over. Army men are jealous, and will try to establish third front against Navy in the near future. Indians Tame Tigers Dartmouth men who haven’t been able to digest their brussel sprouts properly in two weeks, finally had something to cheer about Saturday when the Big Green tripped Prince ton. The Indians got their hands on the ball about three times all after noon, and each time they carried ii right into the end zone so they could get a look ct the blokes who paid $3.30 in U. s. currency to sit be- hind the goal posts. Princeton, not being quite so curious, went into the end zone only once. Hard-boiled, often embroiled Col gate had something of track meet with Columbia at Baker Field. Both elevens did a lot of running, but the Raiders managed to run little fur ther at the right time to win 35–26 Disastrous Up at Holy Cross where they used to raise Crusaders, a handful of Boy Scouts, after doing couple of gooc deeds for Coach Ank Scanlon, were thrown into flight by the appearance of eleven Brown Bears. Chauvin. istic Cross rooterB are now hoping for a victory over Boston College: championship eleven to salvage tht most disastrous season in decade The hope is as far-fetched as tht snowball the lady tried to bring bacl from Alaska. Scanlon is betting only that his boys will show up for. th’ game, and he’s hedging 8 little ever on that one. East is East and West is West, bu the South still raises the best foot ball teams. Georgia Tech ran ove Kentucky, and Georgia remained il the unbeaten ranks with a convinc ing 75–0 win over Florida. Radi’ fans tuning in at the half-time mus have thought they were listening t basketball game or an Atlanti City auction. The Florida game wa a tuneup for the Bulldogs encount CT with Tech, which is like jumpinl over chalk marks as a preliminar. to running the high hurdles. There were 30O 900 producing oi
