Michigan Defeats Northwestern, 34–16 romp by Merv Pregulman for 81 yards when he grabbed one OF Grahams passes for a score. II Backfield men in football haH habit of riding atop the gravy train. They grab the headlines and glory. But there wasn’t person In the stands or on the field who begrudged Franks tha great hand of hero when he came out of the ball game late in the final quarter. He had crashed through time and again to throw Wildcat backs for losses. On other plays he had summarized under oncoming in reference to let other mates make the tackles. He seemed to be in every play. and certainly Lynn Waldorf more than once must have asked somebody on his bench why five men were always in the Northwestern backfield. Franks was the fifth man today. and Northwestern will never have a better fifth man.
