Grabs Breaks To Win, 81 Seven Pieces of Luck Figure Prominently; Field Goal Decides It’s line outplayed, its running attack only a time-waster and it’s passing game not up to par, George town made the most of a remark n able succession of breaks last night at Griffith Stadium to defeat MAN. haitian for the third straight year. 9 to 7. = A crowd of 10000 saw the Jaspers r win on the statistics by wide mar gin but seven breaks, nearly ALL fumbles, went the Hoyas’ way and 5 when Manhattan’s tough luck finally ran out in the final period Georgetown managed to hold on for = lts third win as against no defeat. Surprised at the outset by the hard-running Jasper backs. par tlcularly Frank Kiesecker, the Hoyas played sloppy football in the OPEN ing period and at times in the second, but they managed to hold of the New Workers until the final quarter, when the invader threatened to come from behind. . Two fumbles had hurt Manhattan early in the first period, Georgetown recovering both. These gave theS Hoyas chance to recover. Then, in the second quarter, the Hoyas turned another pair of breaks into o offensive weapons – Morelli Blocks Quick Kick. Back on their 81, the Jaspers tried a quick-kick with Kiesecker back. r Sophomore John Morelli, a guard, blocked it and the bounding yellow oval finally was claimed by G. US Bill Mclaughlin on the Jaspers’ 26. Twice Georgetown tried to pass but without success. Mclaughlin ventured around end but was stopped. Finally fourth-down aerial from Frank Dornfeld to Johnny Barrett clicked but as the receiver ;chugged goalWard he fumbled. Again there was mad scramble and again a Georgetowner Right End Bob Duffey, came up with the ball on the 5-yard line. This was too good a chance to miss. On the third play, Barrett plunged over but Whitley Erickson missed the extra point Fortune still smiled on the Hoyas as the third period opened. Nc Laughlin fumbled the kickoff but Johnny Agnew recovered for gain, no less, on the 40. Then, when his team was held, Dornfeld punted and Earl Lambert, Jasper halfback, fumbled as he was hit. AgneW recovered this one, too, and it was Georgetown’s ball on the enemy %. Erickson Kicks Field Goal. The Hoyas pounded to the II but that’s as far as they could go. Here Coach Jack Hagerty dispatched Erickson to kick and. with Dornfeld holding on the II, he booted squarely the posts to make it 90. There were no more breaks after this one and the Hoyas had a real fight on their hands. Manhattan marched SO yards to begin tossing passes into Georgetown’s end zone. In the fourth quarter the Hoyas were pushed back to their own 10. When Dornfeld kicked out, Kiesecker. carried up to the Hilltoppers 38. and; a series of passes, with Bill Burns heaving to Elmer Demarest and Paul. put the ball on George, towns 8, from where Tommy Donovan carefully picked his way across, Jim Worst added the point to make 1t 81. The rest was a nightmare for the Hoyas, but they made it as time ran out for team that did everything I, better last night except score points.
