Texas Troun(es ). NJ. t., 34–0 Jack Grain Hero With z Touchdowns DALLAS, Tex, Nov. 1.-Texas made up for those eight lean years today, smashing Southern Methodist before a capacity home coming crowd. $40. Cowboy Jack Grain made his last appearance against the Ponies, one to remember, scoring two touchdowns and kicking four conversions-his first scores against S. M. U.-as the Steers defeated a Matty Bell-coached S. M. u. team for the first time. Grain scored his first touch down on a 28-yard pass from Pete Layden and added another on twisting cross-feld jaunt of 81 yards after a lateral from end Mike Sweeney. Layden scored the second Texas counter after his 20-yard sprint through tackle had given Texas a first down on the S. M. u. five. The Texas reserves pounded across two scores in the fourth period on the firing Ponies.
