South Carolina Holds Wake Forest 10 6–6 Tie Before 10000 By the Associated PTetN COLUMBIA, s. c.. Oct. ii.-Bo’h Wake Forest and South Carolina struck through the air today for touchdowns but each failed 10 add the extra point and the result was bruising 6–6 tie before 10000 fans. After threatening mildly in the opening period, the South Carolina Gamecocks launched a scoring thrust that paid off when Louis Stasica, brilliant sophomore tall back, faded deep and fired long heave high over the middle to Gus Hempley, substitute end. Hempley took the ball over his shoulder and raced untouched to the goal, but the placement try for the extra point was blocked. The Deacons’ dander was up and they came back with a vengeance and tied the score just before the half-time whistle. Big John Polanski returned the kickoff Al yards and, after a punt exchange, the scoring march began. Red Cochran passed to Pat Geer down the middle for IA and then threw to Ray Man ieri for IS. Cochran crossed up the defense and circled right end for 10. With the ball on the Carolina 25, Cochran connected with Geer on another pass and the big end raced easily over the goal line. Johnny Perry’s all important conversion attempt was wide.
