Wake Forest Triumphs Over Colonials, 1870 Polanski, Gallovich, Mayberry Spark Ground Play In De- feating George Washington WASHINGTON, Nov. 1.-GP-The Wake Forest Deacons rolled over the George Washington Colonials 10 too to night in ankle deep mud. John Polanski, Tony Gallovich and Red Mayberry, ploughing and skipping through the mire behind a charging line, were too much for the Co!onials. The Deacons contented themselves with feeling out the Colonials in the first period, and then opened up, their running attack to a touchdown in each of the last three. John Pendergast, the Wake Forest center, gave the Deacons the break that led to the first Score, intercept. ing Eddie Wilamoski’s pass on his own 4S and running it to the 40. Polanski then fumbled, and August recovered for George Washington, but on the next play, Ken Batson fumbled and Jim Ringgold recovered on the Colonials’ 40 for Wake Forest. In two tries at the lire, Polanski lugged the muddy ball to the Col onials’ 81. Running to his left, with Polanski taking, Tony Gallovich skip ped to the Deacons’ first score. Pen. dergast missed the try for an extra point. The second touchdown was largely Polanski’s making, although it was Gallovich again who took it over. The Deacons took the ball on their 81 and S XII single-handed ploughed it to George Washington’s 29, in making four straight first downs. With the ball on the Col onials’ 21, Paul Waivers added a-first down on George Washington’s Is on an e~nd-around play. Gallovich. then galloped through the mud, around left end, for his second touchdown, Pe~ndergast’s kick was wide, and the Deacons led II to 0. In the final period, it was Pat Geer, a Wake Forest end, who arranged affairs for the third touchdown. He recovered Batson,s .fumbled punt on the Celonials,- 3d. t With Polanski out of the game, Red Mayberry took the ball over from the Is, running behind beautiful interference. Once more, Pendergast failed to kick the extra point.
