SOUTHWEST SCENE OF CLOSE BATTLE Texas Aggies Face Strong Up position For Title From At Least Three Teams DALLAS, Tex, Oct. 9.-lP-Two weeks ago a Hedging football fan could tell you the Texas Aggies were favorites to win their second straight Southwest conference flag. Today the Aggies look even better – but three other clubs have moved up alongside them. Now the race is as wide open as the Texas prairies. Southern Methodist, Texas Chris tain and Texas have BID for consid- Grafton. So far the conference slate against outside competition is clean. This weekend the boys play six games in five states. All they have to do is knock over such talent as Pitt, U. C. L. A., North Carolina, Louis lana state and Oklahoma. The Aggies, still powered by Jar rim Jawn Kimbrough, the 1899 ALI America fullback, have crushed potent little Texas A and l., conquerors of Pop Warmers San jose State, and a touted Tulsa university crew. Saturday at Los Angeles they move into tougher company, dating U. C. L. A. One Southwest confer ence club, Southern Methodist, has cleaned the Uclans, 90. The Methodists, shoulder-to-shoul der with the Aggies on the guessing, take their unsoiled record against Pitt at Pittsburgh. The real shocker-Texas Christian goes over to Chapel Hill, N. c., for an afternoon with North Carolina. Buried in the early forecasts, Dutch Myers Christians have shot into contention with two rousing triumphs, 41–6 over Centenary and 200 over Arkansas.
