  Michigan’s Tom Harmon Steals Football Show Stars In Beating Bears; Tar Heels Loss, T%rojans’ Tie StandOut Upsets BY SID FEEDER NEW YORK, Sept. 28.-R- Despite the performances of the mighty men of Minnesota, Ohio State, Boston college or any others you have in mind, footballs first big show of 1910 turned out to be a very pleasant birthday party for terrific Tommy Harmon. For this one afternoon, anyway, terrific Tommy was “Mr. Foot ball” as he celebrated his 21st birthday. And, it was no wonder that you heard the $4,000, who saw him, mumbling, to-day he is a man” as they left the stadium. Texas wal loped Colorado 1877. thereby serving a warning that the Longhorns’ll be ready for Indiana next week. Virginia, who meets Yale n e x t week, trounced Lehigh, 32–⁠0 in a southeast tilt. The days two standout upsets saw Southern CALIFORNIA; Rose Bowl and Pacific coast champions tied 14–⁠14 by Washington State, supposed to be the conferences weak sister, and North Carolina, for years a southern conference powerhouse, trounced soundly 1910 by red-hot Wake Forest. In the east, Navy was lucky to have 148-pound HOWE Clark around to stir up a fourth quarter rally that netted two touchdowns to down William and Mary 1877. Looking ahead to their meeting next Saturday, Duke and Tennessee, perennial rulers of Dixie, kept most of their offensive dynamite under wraps to knock off V.M.I. and Mercer $50 and 400, respeclively. Mississippi, led by Merle Hapes and June Hovius, trounced Louis lana State 1876 for the third straight year and Mississippi State exploded a four-touchdown bomb in the last half to knock off Florida 25–⁠7 in Southeastern conference games. North Carolina State whip ped Davidson $40 in the Southern conference. Vanderbilt started new Coach Red Sanders off with a 1910 win over Washington and Lee.
