COLLEGE DEFEATS TULANE Ruins Waves Hopes Of Repeating 80 Performance With PIT Upset NEW OnLEAlNO, oept. lo.-hV Boston college smothered Tulane’s fond hopes Of repeating its brilliant 1899 season today before 49, 600 stunned spectators by turning on an aerial attack that left the Wave helpless and on the short end of a 27–7 intersectional upset. The mighty Wave of last year was but a ripple before the alert and charging Eagles who crunched Tulane Power beneath passes, and capitalized on fumbles and breaks. After four touchdown ms through the first three quarters, Tulane inally came to life in the final seconds to score when a pass had line. Charlie O’Rourke, a shining Bosput the ball on Voston’s 7-yard ton star along with Mickey Connolly, opened the touchdown parade within five minutes of the opening kickoff whe he deposited a punt neatly on Tulane’s 8, and Tulane’s Fred Glode was able to get it back only to midfield. O’Rourke, Kissel, and Maznicki legged it through Tulane’s crumbling defense to the IS, W h e r e O’Rourke heaved one mot AL Lukachick’s arms. Adolp Kisseu took it over standing up. First Returns The first returns are in and 1t looks like all the dizzy football seasons of the past will be nothing compared to this one. Already on the list of the defeated are Washington, North Carolina, Louisiana State, U. c. l.. A. and Tulane. and another great gridiron power, Southern California, has its record marred by tie. So hold your hats boys-we’ll be lucky to have one undefeated team at the end of the season if things continue to happen like they did over the past weekend VIXEN tlN campaign officially opened. On the basis Of inaugural-day performances, we offer today trio Of real dark-horse teams-Boston Col lege. Wake Forrest and Mississippi. Everyone knew Boston College was good-but not good enough to defeat Tulane, one of last years great teams, by 27–7 score. Boston Col lege had pair of lads named Char ley “ 1NOul hc 1llQ MlChCy SOiliiOlis operating for them, and paste these names in your hat because you’re going to hear more about them this year. Wake Forest was tabled as good but not good enough to defeat North Carolina, 14–0. And Mississippi, scoring 13 points in the last five minutes of play to defeat Lou isiana State 1876, may be the team to beat down in that tough South eastern Conference where at least half a dozen teams have chance to win the title. Out III the Big Ten, Minnesota roared up the comeback trail with 1914 victory over Washington and the word is cut that the Co. pliers again may climb to the heights they once occupied in the
