Grinnell 10, Western o. Grinnell. Oct. 2.-Grinnell defeated the footall team from Western College at Toledo Saturday afternoon by a score of 40 to 0. While the game was considered by the locals and their friends as a practice only, the play ing was sharp and fierce and at times fair imitation of good football was presented. Many new men were tried out by Grinnell and, on the whole, they gave good account of themselves. The work of knapp.last year a guard sub. “ al full back, and of Lyman, new man at end, was especially creditable. The work of Capron, Wheeler. Lindsay and Fellows, though not yet up TO form, was quite satisfactory. Wheeler’s goal kicking, punting and drop kicking was excellent. The feature of the game was a beautiful ninetyyard sprint by Lind say for a touchdown in the first half Capt Burd and Douglas were not in the game on account of injuries. The foot ball horizon is not entirely free from clouds, but those in touch with the sit a good showing in the championship contest The management refuse to discuss matters of policy” and no one is in q position to say what action will be taken or how the difficulties grow ing out OF the somewhat embarrassing situation produced by the Drake ultimatum Will be met. Mount Vernon, Oct. 2.-Cornel went down to defeat Saturday before the Ames cyclones by a score of – to 0. The only time that Cornell made any material gains through the Ames Col ege line was after the first kick off, when they advanced thirty yards into Ames’ territory, but Cornell was at no time nearer than thirty-five yards of Ames’ goal. The defensive work of Ames was below what could have been expected. Much fumbling .rvas done on both sides. The game was interesting, but one-sided. Griffith Lecere Roberts, Smith, Brown and Maine were the stars of the Anes team. Worth, Chris tian and Fogg played the best game for Cornell. The lineup was: Ames- Cornell Smith .......... left end 49,. Wood and Christian Browne ........ left tackle -. Davidson Chambers $500. left guard ....... Rigby and Parson OVENS. center ........
