Corne||.Against Ohio State Is Ace Battle Skibos in Bright Spot To Upset ‘|rish’;; Eli Faces Michigan NEW YORK, Oct. 28.-No matter how you look at the dozens of good games on the college football program this mid-season Saturday aft ernoon. three of them stand out head and shoulders above the rest. They’re all East-Midwest intersectional games-Cornell VS.. Ohio State, Yale VS.. Michigan and Car negie VS.. Notre Dame. Considering the known strength of the teams, their records and prestige. about the only other contests that might be mentioned in the same breath are North Carolina VS.. Penn sylvania, Purdue vs. Santa Clara and two Pacific Coast Conference clashes Oregon-U. c. L. A. and Southern California–Gali Take the first. for example. Ohio State shares with Michigan the lead in the Big Ten, perhaps the most powerful of all college conferences with the single exception of its last place member, Chicago. Cornell, long ranking member of the Easts informal but none the less influential Ivy League” has come up with an unusually fine team, perhaps the best in the East. Yale Distinct Underdog. Yale with a rather unimpressive record, hardly figures to give Michigan a tussle, but there’s the we’ll known fact that Yale teams lust don’t go down any way but fighting. The Ellis are exhibiting in the Mid west for the second time in history all the color and background that is traditional with Yale football. Although younger than Yale’s. Notre Danes football tradition is almost as strong. And a part of it is that Carnegie is one team most likely to upset the Irish” Car negie itself was upset last week by New York University. and doesn’t appear likely to turn the tables this time Each Of those games figures to at tract. 10000 or more fans. The others, except Purdue-S Santa Clara, are in the $4,000 and up class as gate attractions. Penn is one of the Easts few unbeaten and united teams, while North Carolina, major Southern power, has only been tied. Oregon and U. c. L. A. are candidates for the Coast title and the Rose Bowl. So is Southern California, which is back near the top after a shaky start. More Lively Struggles Listed. Other outstanding games, reading from East to West. include Dart mouth Harvard, Pitt -Fordham, Ar sas-Villanova, Louisiana State Vanderbilt, Auburn-Georgia Tech, Wake Forest-Duke, Illinois North western, Iowa Wisconsin. Nebraska Kansas State. Baylor A. and NJ, Rice-Texas, Utah-Denver, STAN ford-Washington and Washington State-Oregon State. All should produce lively tussels, but the draw back in most cases is that the Sec tional leaders aren’t matched up with their leading rivals this week. 1ntersectional games also were the most interesting events on the Fri day program as unbeaten and untied Duquesne whipped Texas Tech 1870, and West Virginia and South Carolina played 6–6 tie. In other outstanding games. Temple whipped Bucknell 1910. Sewanee pulled out a 60 decision over Southwestern of Memphis, Catholic U. downed Miami, 40: Drake moved back into the Missouri Valley Conference race with 12–0 win over St. Louis Uni versity and Brigham Young of the Big Seven trimmed Greeley State Of the Rocky Mountain conference, 1876.
