ANNAPOLIS, Nd. Oct. IA stout-hearted, hard-running Virginia eleven delved deeply into It’s usual plentiful store of black magic to produce two touchdowns against Navy this afternoon, but the for tunes of football were against the Cavaliers. and Navy, taking advantage Of two timely breaks, struck twice in the third period to wiring a 14–12 victory from the perspiration-drenched hides of its guests. 1t was a moral victory for the Murraymen from Charlottesville, but heart-breaking loss after such a game stand. Not to be overlooked was Navy’s own gallant fight, for the Midshipmen produced those extra points in the clutches which decided the issue, and in cold sta tistics outplayed their guests by a comfortable margin. Some $4,000 fans sitting in a broiling sun watched the proceedings, and it seemed the boys tried to produce a thrill for each one. Todays game marked Navy’s seventh consecutive victory in the series, which was resumed in 1888 and ended with today’s game. It was a sour but not disheartening finishing note for the losers. Cavaliers Dash to Lead. Keeping the Midshipmen bottled In their own end of the field throughout an evenely contested first period, the Cavaliers roared ahead into a 60 lead when Bill Dudley took the ball on a double reverse, circled right end, whirled out of the waiting arms of Ev Malcolm and raced As yards to a touchdown. Gillette’s try for the extra point was blocked. Virginia threw its offensive into high gear again early in the final quarter, judiciously mixing laterals and forward passes with a straight running game in a march from Nays 45-yard line. 1t was a freak play, and a break which helped off, set Nays good fortune to some extent, with Bucky Morse, Wash ington lad, retrieving pass in the end zone for the touchdown. Navy again blocked the try for extra point. The eventual victors, meanwhile, had chalked up brace Of touch downs in the third period, clinching the honors, although at that stage of the proceedings it appeared that two might not be sufficient to hold the visitors. Woods Play Surprises. Navy launched its first touchdown drive with the opening kickoff Of the second half, starting from its own 34-yard mark. The Sailors reached Virginia. s Is before the bat ting Cavaliers dug in and held for downs. They exchanged kicks, Navy regaining possession of the cowhide on its own 30. Two plays netted yards before the Tars shifted to the left. ostensibly for a run in that direction. But Harwood sent a low pass from center which EN- NETT Wood temporarily bobbled. When he finally picked it up, he darted to the unprotected right and went 50 yards down the sidelines to Virginia’s IL. where he stumbled and fell. The entire Virginia team was pulled wholly out of position on the play. Gebert slanted off left tackle behind fine interference for the touch down, after first being stopped at the line after 2-yard gain. Woods placement split the stanchions. The second break followed i’m mediately, although the Orange and Blue was guilty of sloppy hall han ding on the play. Ken Rathbun, whose end play for Virginia was out standing, took Ops kickoff and at tempted to hand it to Dudley. He fumbled and Opp recovered on the visitors 30-yard mark. Navy Scores Clincher. Malcolm found a hole In the left side of the line and breezed through to the 20, and on the same play Virginia drew a 19-yard penalty
