Hal Lube Is Man To Stop, Dukes hiink Durham. Oct. 4-If The Blue Devils of Duke were worried by the passing ability Of DaVidson’s Gran Vile Sharpe last week, they ought to be put close 10 case OF Hdecplc- Iecbies” by the talents OF Colgatc’S Hal Lube, who will be with Andy Kerr’s Red Raiders in Duke Stadium Saturday afternoon to give the Blue Devils their first major test OF the season. Lube is the same fellow who pass od the Dukes to near death at But1a- TO- N. Y, year ago when the Devils barely edged Colgate, 10, ana mao to put on two fourth-quarter goal line stands to do it. He completed seven consecutive losses in the clos ing minutes Of the game. Another boy the Dukes won’t Tor get is Joe Hoague the 2OO-pound Red Raider fullback, who won his spurs as sophomore in the Duke game last year. Hoague averaged 81 yards on his punts that day, and turned in remarkable defensive perfornance. He’ll be on hand Saturday. too. as the Iron Dukes Of 1889 make their first home appearance. George McAfee, Dukes southpaW triDlc-threater, was the “hard-lucll bow in the Blue Devils 26–6 conquest of Davidson last week. Twice when George shook loose Tor brilliant broken-field runs, the Duke team was caught breaking the rules and were penalized. Once he inter cepted a Davidson pass and raced AZ Yards for a score, only to have the ! play recalled and IS yards assessed the Blue Devils for clipping. His 30 ward punt return was also nulll1led when a Duke lineman committed the same mistake. Roger Robinson, Blue Devil full back. did some great running against Davidson. He featured in the sustanned drives for the second and fourth touchdoWns and literally rip ped the Wildcat line to pieces. In dian Bill Geyer, much publicized COLGATE sophomore, lived up to adj vance notices last Saturday when he set sail for 88 yards against New York University to give the Red Raiders their only touchdown. Duke made many mistakes in the opener against Davidson. The Blue Devils won’t be able to make those same mistakes and come out as well against Colgate. The errors were natural, however, since large sec ton of the Duke squad is ineXper- Iienced. Duke has probably its green est” crop in several years.
