GREAT GAME AT MADISON wisconsin Boys Win Despite the Abb sence Of Several of It’s Strong Players-Chicago Eleven Scores Against the PennsylYanians-Gr iron Eyens in Other Places. Madison, Oct. 81. Madison, Oct. 81. Without Pat” O’Dea’s famous leg and without the irresistible Holmes, the Wisconsin university football team Saturday administered a crush ing defeat to Minnesota, the score being 20 to 0. This is the third success siVe season the badgers have triumphed over the gophers. Whenever either team secured a ma terial advantage Saturday nearly 5000 spectators, gayly decked with bright cardinal or old gold and maroon, yelled themselves black in the face. The solid bank of humanity that stretched from the lowest seat of the bleachers to the highest one in the big grandstand was an inspiring sight and when it rose en- masse at touchdown or other clever play and waved thou sands of banners and yelled and danced like blood-thirty Pillagers the scene was most animated. FOoTRALL. Results of Saturdays oontests on tn, GrIdiron. Results of Saturdays oontests on the GrIdiron. The Yale university football team de- feated the West Point eleven on Satur- day afternoon at West Point by the score of 10 to 0, The game was close and exciting from start to finish and the cadets worked hard to score but they did not succeed. Their men were in excellent trim in sharp contrast to the condition Of the Yale team. The score was not as large as anticipated or wished for by some of Yales sup porters, but the more conservative are not in the least discouraged over the future prospects and consider the work Of the eleven as remarkably good. It was almost an eleven of cripples as the men have been unable to play for the past week owing to severe injuries. Fortunately none of the Yale men were injured to any extent in Satur- days game and all will be able to par ticipate in the practice during this week. Contrary to published reports Catpain Chamberlin played his position at right tackle. The lineup was as follows: West Point. Yale. Left end. Smith, w. At Providence, the eleven from Brown university was defeated by Princeton by the score of 23 to 3. Yale’s score against Brown was 22 to 6. Browns s score was the result of a tumble by one of Yale’s backs. Harvard had rather hard work de- feating the Indians and for some time it looked as if the Redskins would win out. The final score was Ii to 5. Hudson having succeeded in kicking a goal from the field. Yale’s score against the Indians was IS to 5. HILLHOUsE VICTORIOUS. The Hillhouse High school eleven won the first of their interscholasitic football games from Bridgeport High school team at Bridgeport Saturday. The winners played in superior style and the final score was 59 to O. As may be imagined the game was not in the least interesting to the spectators. Y M. c. A., 5; WEST HAVEN, 0. The Y. M c.
