Perfect Grid Records Narrow Down YALES RESTING AFTER THRILLING TIE WITH GREEN. Brown at New Haven Sat urday – Dartmouth T. Man Line Surprises New Haven, Nov. 1-CUP)-A bat tered but unbeaten Yale university football team, which never knew when to quit fighting, got a day of in its training grind today while or- gumentS swirled over the spectacular 9–9 tie with Dartmouth Saturday. Possibly not a single spectator among the amazing throng of 72,0O0 which packed the bowl saw a more thrill-packed finish than occurred there in the slipping seconds of the last quarter. For nearly four periods a seven- man Dartmouth line kept the vaunt- ed Eli attack in check. Ground gains by Yale were few; aerials went un- completed. The great Capt. Clint Frank, an All-America possibility, was kept in chains. Rabbit” Mcleod Dartmouth, meantime, in excel- lent shape despite an epidemic of dysentery, was piling up points in convincing manner. Bob Mcleod, early in the final quarter, plucEed Frank pass from the air on his own 10-yard line and was of like rab- bit chased by hounds. He never was headed. It was Dartmouth now, 6–2, because the Ellis, in the first half, gained 8 safety when Hotch- inson was tackled behind his own goal-line. And when Phil Dostal bootad a field goal 8 few minutes later after Q Big Green touchdown was voided by an off-side pentlay, the score was 9–2 and the clock at the far end of the Bowl portrayed a sad picture for the Yale adherents. Then, with less than minute left, Capt. Frank shot the works. He heaved 8 long-distance aerial from dep into his own territory into the arms of shifty-hipped Al Hessberg, and the ball was on Dartmouth’s S5. Three passes failed and groan went up from the stands. With 10 seconds to go, Frank again faded back, heaved the ball, again the ever-present Hessberg catapulted into the air, grippd ca ball, and swept into the end zone for the score. The clock was ready to quit. But not Yale. Bud Humphrey dashed from the side-lines, nonchalantly botted the extra point and, play later. the game was over. ! Man Line Greatest topic for discussion was the surprising use of the seven-man line by the Green. The full array of linemen on offense and defense was regarded as outmoded. Yale lined up with five-man line, lnak- inn possible an excellent passing defense system in these days of open football. The Green lineup choked Frank completely, but in the end failed for the very reason the five and six-man lines now are used-passes. If Dartmouth had had more men in the backfeld to stem the do-or-die EN attack through the air in the cloGing minutes, 1t might have come of the victor. ... Yale was satisfied with the tie. Preparations now were going for ward swiftly for the invasion of Q growing Brown university Bear to the Bowl Saturday.
