    - EORGE WASHINGTON looks to its football future today with no honest show of en- ~ thuSiasm. A week ago the Colonials pardonably were toppled from the ranks of the unbeaten by Alabama. Last night they joined two other twice-beaten local major grid iron powers by blowing 14–13 decision to Tulsa. And next week they face the uninviting prospect of meet ing Mississippi. The business of taking inventory today was not cheering. Defensively, George Washington can point to such now-established assets as Ends Pete Yurwitz and Lloyd Berry, Tackle John Rebholz and Fullback Jay Turn or. Anyway. this quartet stood out In last nights battle with Tulsa. Offensively, only little Vic Sampson threatens to go places and do things in the G. w. scheme of activity, and offense. after all, is the best defense and what wins games. Strictly from the spectators view point. George Washington helped Tulsas Golden Hurricane to put on one of the best football shows of the season last night in Mr.. Griffith’s ball yard. Tulsa lived up to its reputation as show” team and snatched the game out of fire in the final quarter when Substitute Quarterback Gerald Mcclure grabbed pass off the finger tips of teammate and G. w. sec ondary to plunge across the goal line, tying the score. A few moments later Charlie Johnson, place-kicking guard. added the extra point which proved to be the deciding margin. Couldn’t Handle G. w. Ends. PUT it was not from spectators viewpoint that George Washing ton adherents today regarded the thriller. The howl for bigger and better and more varied offensive, born in the wake of the Alabama defeat, reached mild crescendo today in the vicinity of Twenty-second and II streets. NV. II was established beyond reasonable doubt that George Washington had the far superior line last night. Ends Yurwitz and Berry, who were out clasSed in the Alabama game. stood out over the Tulsa flankmen on Mr.. G’s lawn and this represented an i’m portant edge Tulsa’s famed aerial circus suffered through the inability of its tackles and ends to handle Messrs. Yurwitz and Berry, not to mention Rebholz. but in the end this item was overcome, lucky or not. What hurt the G. w. cause was that 1t neither had the speed nor the versatility to cope with set of fast-cutting Tulsa backs and pass receivers. Bluntly, team which ostensibly was inferior on defense whipped George Washington because it could do and was directed to do more things well extensively.
