BROWN BEATEN BY YALE. The Game Was SavaGeiy Contested throughout. New Haven, Oct 19-Savage football was played on the Yale field this after noon before the Brown University representatives acknowledged themselves beat en- by Yale. But the Brownonians went home happy, for they scored Before the contest a few of the Brown followers admitted they had hopes of winning, and they expected their eleven to improve up on last years score of is to II here. Todays final score was, however, only p to G against the Providence kickers, and Browns only score, made just five min utes before the second half closed, came on fiuke. Yale had the ball inside the Brown ten yard line, but Benjamin was fumbling painfully, and the leather slipped from his grasp as he dashed into the line. Washburn seized II, and, finding three Brown companions by his side, dashed into an open side for a ninety-yard run. The only man in the Yale line to grasp the situation promptly was Benjamin, who sprinted after the runner the entire length of the field and was almost even with him as he touched down behind the Yale goal. Brown deserved whitewash. Her men put up vicious. offensive game the first half, but Yale rose TO the occasion and fought her opponents to a standstill. The strongest players on both sides were taken out of the game, so rough was the play. Yale played old-fashioned, straight away football, but it was ciean-cut, except for Benjamin’s fumb.es. Her great est gains were made by slashing away at the Brown center and tackles.
