Central High Lineup Changes Loom Bench Warming g By Burdette Kline Post Press Sports Editor Letters, addressed to the football contest editor, have poured into the PoSt-Press office this week asking why there were thirteen games listed in this weeks contest instead of the usual twelve. The answer to that question could be made into a long story but the Bench Warmer can explain the situation in a few words. Thus far in the season the Bench Warmer has been noted for his ability to pick losers instead of winners. OF course b.w. is not superstitious but thirteen games might bring a change of luck. Any way the selections can not be more inaccurate SO here are this week S winnerS-all thirteen of them. Holtville high school, boasting its strongest team since the days of the redoubtable Red Morgan, will defeat Coach Taylor’S luckless Spartans by a score of 1877. The Vikings will score in the first period and in the last. But the score will be close. Stanford, recovering from a slow start, will upset the applicant of Oregon State by 40 score. Dart mouth will ruin Yale’s hope for a perfect season with two touchdowns

ROSE BOWL BID NOW TOPIC FOR UNBEATEN CLUBS BY FRANK BUCK” O’NEILL Vanderbilt’s football eleven leaped to the fore in Southeastern Conference circles, and is march ing stride for stride with Alabama, Rose Bowl bound. The CommodoreS will attempt to sail through the Crimson Tide on ThankSgiving Day at Knoxville in a game that already has the nation talk ing. AS the picture now presents it. self, Alabama has the easier course to California. The Tide should beat Kentucky, Tulane and Georgia Tech before meeting Vandy. Vanderbilt must play Tennessee, which is no bargain, and also faces some trouble from Georgia Tech. On the West Coast, University of California rolled to victory over the Trojans Of University of Southern California, winning by score Of 20 to 6. Some 10000 lovers Of football were in the stands as the Golden Bears crushed their cherished foemen of the South. Pittsburgh, by virtue Of its deciSive victory over Wisconsin retainS its station as Rose Bowl candidate from the East, and if the PantherS receive an invitation they will accept without delay. Rejecting Rose Bowl bids, with the prestige attaching thereto, is not included in the Panthers’ plans of setting its house in order. BROWN SURPRISES While football fans cheer along many fronts, let’s raise a cheer for the old Brown Bear, which came out of Information on Saturday to whip a Columbia team that was rated as vastly superior. It was Browns first victory in major competition since it defeated SYRIA cuse in 1888. AS the Bear rose, so rose the Leopard of Lafayette, which confirmed it’s victory over Georgetown by downing New York University. Dartmouth’s decisive victory over Harvard on Saturday eStabfishes the Green Indians as one of the leaders of the East in all aspects. Harvard showed a lot Of ability against Navy, and went into the strife with the Hanover eleven on even terms. Neither had been defeated, both were finely coached, and all elements were suspicious for a great game. Dartmouth, coached by Earl Red” Blaik, of Army, has turned out a great team at Dartmouth. It is well grounded in every par. ticular. It’s line is turned by Harry Ellinger, also Of Army, and one of the best linemen West Point ever knew. That the Green should be three touchdowns better than Harvard was surprising. When discussing Rose Bowl possibilities, it will not be wise to overlook Baylor University down there in Texas. The Baylor boys turned back Texas A. & NJ. College which was highly rated in the most select circles in the Lone Star State. Baylor faces stern competition from Texas Christian University, and if it can survive this test will go ahead to the championship in all probability.
