Antrim Stops Irish Attack For Navy The Last of the Ingrams walked off the field at Baltimore with the cheers of $1,000 spectators dinning in his ears. Eager hands reached to pat his expansive shoulders; to clasp his weary hands, fatigued in football game that may live in history as the masterpiece of Bill Ingram the Second. 1t was the Last of the IngramS who spun the field goal that beat Notre Dame by a score of 3 to 0 and checked Navy losing streak that had endured through three depressing weeks. The wearied hands of the Last of the Ingrams had reached through the thin air to clutch two Notre Dame forward passes with which the Irish sought victory through the ether. The field was bathed in the Gold of a sunset that lit the Blue of the seven seas as the Last of the Ingrams, hero Of the hour, hurried with what speed was pos Sible to the sanctuary of the dressing room. Somewhere in the struggling ranks of Navy’s victorious host, big Bob Antrim trudged along. Few hands reached for him. Few voices acclaimed him, except that he shared the shout that halls the team that wins. But Bob Antrim walked off the field with a song in his heart and the smiles of the coaches upon him. Antrim Unsung Hero Without Bob Antrim on the field, the field goal of the Last of the Ingram’s would have been pitifully inadequate. Notre Dame would have won that game, in all probability; would have won by two touchdoWns. This is pure conjecture, perhaps, but let’s look at what hap pened. In the first five minutes of play Notre Dame advanced to the Navy 4-yard line in a march that was irresistible. With vic tory in sight, almost, the Green line Surged forward, but Antrim crashed through to make teeth rattling tackle. Again the Green line Surged forward, and again Antrim hurled his mighty bulk between the last white line and the ball. This time human flesh could not withstand the power of his tackle. The ball popped into the air. The eager hands of Maurice Ferrara clutched it as it came to earth. Antrim then stepped back into the end zone and sent a Swerving, driving punt that slithered away from the Notre Dame safety man and went deep down the field. Great Defense Saves Navy Later in the game this same Bob Antrim stood in the end zone with a forward pass whirling through the air to eager Green receivers. He Rugged the brown missile to his chest for a touch back and again Navy was saved. Antrim played about % of the 30 minutes of the first half, and in those % minutes of terrific &C. ton, he made fully 70 per cent of the tackles made by Navy. He blocked with great power, and to those observers who can restrain the desire to watch only the ball carrier, he was a host in himself.
