Little Hanover College eleven that has been pushed about the gridironS during the present football campaign is to journey to Bloomington, Ill, Thursday for Turkey Day tilt with Illinois Wesleyan, and that will be the swan song of Indiana football for the 1885 season. The curtain fell on strictly Hoo sier soil pigskin activities last Saturday with a trio of games that was rightly acceptable as dessert for a meal of fine gridiron struggles that have been dished out to state fans during the last two months. Indiana retained possession of the Old Oaken Bucket for another year with a well-earned TO victory over the fast-stepping Purdue machine. A Well-timed pass, Wendell Walker to Vernon Huffman, who in turn gal loped SIS yards to the goal line, after which Capt. Reed Kelso booted perfect placement for the extra point, tells the scoring history of the game. 1t was the 18th renewal of the Purdue Indiana series and the thirteenth victory for the Crimson. Notre Dame closed the most sue cessful season enjoyed by the Irish since Knute Rockne was directing them to national championships back in 1929 and 1880. On Saturday they hurled back challenging Southern California eleven at South Bend, 20–13. 1t was a great windup for the boys

Beaten 6 to 0 by their Far Western foes after a wild first half that produced almost everything in foot ball, good and bad, the Ramblers rushed back with an aerial counter attack that carried them to victory. Heading the brilliant attack was the Bard of Staten Island” William Shakespeare, who closed his collegiate gridiron career with one of his great est games, and Wally Fromhart, who turned in his greatest.

Gridiron Crazy &1A VA4AA VAAS @SVVHOsA4 VA this sumptuous day: The quickest way to ruin Thanksgiving Day for any general, admiral or a sports writer is to inquire of him where a couple Of seats for the Army–Navy game can be had. Lieut.. Moe DAILY, line coach at West Point, was stricken with appendicitis this week while mapping Arny’s defense against Navy’S spread plays” with Lieut.. (Head Coach) Gar Davidson. Seventeen football players grad uate from Notre Dame before an other season rolls around. Among them are Bill Shakespeare Mike Layden, Andy Pilney, Fred Ca rideo, Don Elser, Wally Fromhart, Frank Gaul, Frank Pojman, Fred Solari, Wayne Miner and Marty Peters. For Merit On GridirOn Three Harvard varsity football players have been awarded scholarships by the Student Council, and their education expense will be party betrayed from a fund Of $500 contributed by the under graduates. The lucky athletes are n. John Adzigian, left halfback; George w. Blackwood, quarter. back, and John c. Cabiter, tackle. Now let’s run through today’S football selections right quickly. To win, I like Maryland, Catholic University, George Washington, Kentucky, Colgate, Fordham, Kan sas, Nebraska, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Wake Forest, West Virginia, Albright, Carnegie Tech, Alabama, Washington and Lee, Temple. Furman, Arkansas, and William and Mary. Sectionally, the football cham pions of the country this morn ing stood: East, Princeton; West, Minnesota; South, louisa ma State; Southwest, Southern Meth. odist University and Texas Chris. tian, who play this week; Far West, Stanford. The dog-eat-dog game Of the East today will not be the Cor nell-PennSylvania game, but the Ferdham-New York University contest. There’s a Rose Bowl chance in that game for N. Y. U. Some Bad Luck Teams T. Five teams the country over are . outstanding for having encountered one bad play, or one bad game, that kept them out Of ma tional or sectional champions North Carolina, Duke, California. Pittsburgh and Holy Cross. Coach Carl Snavely’s North Carolina Tar Heels will lose nine letter men (by graduationO after today’S game with Virginia, not ; the least of which is the great Don Jackson, the fluffy” Lee mans, of Chapel Hill. “The others playing their last season for Carolina are: Co-captain Harry Montgomery, half back; Babe Daniels, center; CO. captain Herman Snyder, quarter back; Gene Barwick, end; Tom Evans, tackle; Jim McCracken, quarterback; Emmett Joyce. guard, and Mill Moore, end. No BED OF ROSES Stanford seems to be Califor- MAS favorite son to represent the West in modern Rose Bowl competition. Next New Year Day the Indians will make their sixth bow in the Tournamen: Of Roses classic. The bowl, however. has been no bed Of roses for Stan ford. They have won but one of their five previous appearances. Southern California has been a party to the Pasadena classic on four occasions and California has carried the flaming torch for the West on three occasions. Stan. ford, however, appeared in a sort of fore-runner to the Rose Bowl game back in 1901 when it played Michigan. losing by 49 to 0. In 1925, when the Indians started their modern appearances, they lost to Notre Dame by 81 to 10. In 1927 they tied Alabama z and and the following year eked out a 7-to-6 victory over Pittsburgh for their only win Of the series. Two years ago, most of you remember, they suffered a 7-to-0 upset at the hands Of Lou Lttle’S Columbia underdogS and last New Year Day they took an awful shell lacking from Alabama by 20 to 13. On the other hand, Southern California has put up the greatest defense of the West in Rose Bowl competition, winning all four OF its games. Penn State, Tulane and Pittsburgh have all fallen before the Trojans, the Pittsburghers twice. California split even in three . Rose Bowl appearances, defeating Ohio State, tying Washington and Jefferson and losing to Georgia Tech by 1 point when Roy Reigels ran the wrong way.
