w YASHINGTON’S 1885 loot M ball season, which began wv with so much hope and promise, is becoming little chaotic. One bubble after another has burst or shrunk. Georgetown, of which least was expected among the Capitals big four, was surprised by Albright and lost, 6 to 0. George Washington, with two of the biggest attractions in the country on its schedule, Alabama and Rice In stitute, and itself with a team accounted capable Of going far places, was strangled by the Crimson Tide 80 to 0. Only Catholic University has moved steadily onward To get over its f1rst big hump 1t defeated Duquesne, to 0. On a foreign field, it will encounter its second high hurdle next Saturday in the form of Detroit University, coached by Rocknes old pal, Gus Dorais. If the Cardinals clear this jump Washington will have flrst-rate foot ball show it hadn’t counted upon. It will see an undefeated c. U. team embattled with an outfit you hear little about, but which may be in terestingly dangerous-St. Mary’s OF Texas. c. U. and st. Mary’s will meet at Griffith Stadium on Friday night OF next week, and for the first time this season the Cardinals will have the D. c. stage to themselves. In their only home game so far they met La Sale when George Washington was playing Alabama here. st. Mary’s Not a Set-Up. CT MARY’S, with only four days OF ~ practice, lost its opener to Rice by 80 to 0, then defeated Abilene Chris tian, Texas Wesleyan and Texas Mines decisively. Next Saturday it will meet st. Thomas at Scranton, Pa. The Cardinals. striving with conf dence to become the first District eleven to achieve perfect record. are not accepting the st. Mary’s game lightly. The Texans, who use fresh men on the varsity, will average 2l1 pounds in the line against 1877 for C. U. and 1877 in the backfield against the Cards 179. And they have q smart coach. Frank Bridges, who learned his foot ball at Harvard and Baylor. coached Baylor to a Southwestern Conference championship in 1924. It’s q whopping team st. Mary’s will bring to Washington, its lightest man weighing 1875 pounds, and II may destroy the last Of the Capitals opportunities for exceptional foot ball distinction this season by preventing G. U. from having clean slate. The remainder of the D. c. cam paign, however, probably will offer lots of excitement. Although beaten in unexpected fashion, neither George town, George Washington nor Mary land has thrown in the towel; far from it. Georgetown, off to a ragged start against Albright, showed almost remarkable improvement against Roanoke and looks to even better things against Miami University of Florida here next Saturday. The Hoyas really are pointing for next season, but are bent upon making a worthwhile record in 1885. Stung by the ‘Bama business, George washington came back strong to lace Catawba and expects to play a heap of foot ball against West Virginia next Friday night at Griffith Stadium. The Colonials figure the Rice game will give them an opportunity to recover the prestige they lost in the fall before the Crimson tide. Maryland’s defeat was not surprising, but the size of the score was and its game next Saturday with v. M. J., in the Cadets homecoming, likely will find the Terrapins swapping viciously.
