THE SPORTZIGHT Cornell Brilliant in Defeat by Penn; Burly, Brisk Bucknell Checks Temple. I’VE might be on our heels in this Bucknell game. But when you can go through hard season unbeaten. there was a lot of speed and power and weight in that Bucknell team” You could see that Smukler had all the elements Of q fine back. but this Buckneu game was not one of his big days. The Bucknell defense was entirely too fast and powerful to be run down. And Bucknell was out to stop Smukler That Is what Bucknell did. both played brilliantly. This Temple -Bucknell game brought out the hardest. surest tackling any one could ask for. In the first half these two BucknelI backs outgained Temples entire backfield more than 2 to l-10l yards to so, if you want the exact figures. Penn and Cornell. TROM the Temple -Bucknell score less battle, swung to the ira ditional Penn-Cornell battle at Franklin Field. With Harry Stuhldreher of Villanova, Dick Hanley of Northwestern and Noble Kizer Of Purude, we left the Temple -Bucknell game, with Pop Warner lighting an other cigarette and shifting just q trif1e nervously on the bench. Pop wanted this ball game. He had drawn one tie with In diana, and tie was all that he could look for against Bucknell, with almost no chance to win. When the flying squadron Of coaches joined Lou Little of Columbia and Fritz Crisler of Princeton at the Penn Cornell battle, Penn was lead ing. 16 to Z. In the first half before $4,000 spec tators Pennsylvania put on a marcn of So yards. Murray crashed over for the first touchdown. At this point Brown kicked a difficult field goal. Then there came long forward pass “a running forward, Brown to Brad ford Of Pennsylvania-that stopped on Cornell’s 6-yard line. In two plays Murray crashed over for the second touchdown. Penn was now leading, 16 to 0. Cornell then punted to ElverSon, Ell verson fumbled on the 16-yard line and Stofer rushed over for the first Cornell touchdown. Stofer on q straight buck hit left tackle, cut IN and went over the line as he shook loose two tacklers. I came in as Cornell was threaten ing in the third period. Two passes failed. Cornell was threatening again. Cornell threw a pass deep in Penn territory and Shanahan of Penn pulled it down and raced rs yards for q touchdown. In the face Of these tough breaks Gil Dobie’s young. light game team put on a 60-yard march for q touchdown. Cor nell threw six shovel passes In row. T’ve never seen this happen before” Noble Kizer OF Purdue remarked. Neither have l.” Dick Han ley Of Northwestern answered.
