PURDUE SLAUGHTERED BEATEN 81 TO A by UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS FOOTBALL ELEVEN. Capt. MOOre’s BLIZZARD Run the Only Redeenling Featare-Training- School Boys WhoIIOped. Special to the Indianapolis Journal. Special to the indianapolis Journal. URBANA, ILL.,, Oct 23.-Captain Moore’s team of pigskin kickers from Purdue Uni yersity was defeated this afternoon by the University of Illinois, the score being “a to 4. The home team outplayed the HOLSTERS at all points of the game from start to fin ish and won as it pleased. This is the sixth game between the two institutions, but is the first one to be won by Illinois, whose rooters appreciate the victory all the more on that account. Captain Moore made the star play for his side in the second half. The score was “a to 0 and Purdue held the ball on last down, with six yards to gain. Moore slipped between tackle and end, eluded Coffeen, Shuler and Forbes and ran hfty-fiVe yards for the Hoosiers only score. The star play of the Illinois team also came in the second half. After a Purdue kickoff, Forbes punted high in the air. Moore tried to catch the ball, but misjudged it and dropped the oval. Coffeen grabbed it as it dropped from Moore’s arms and had a clear field for seventy-five yards and a touch down. The most effective play of Illinois was the Princeton revolving tandem directed against tackle. The team never failed to gain when that play was used. Purdue did not hold the ball often enough to show the backs real strength. Their line was weak and would be ripped to pieces before the ball could be set in motion. Illinois scored four points after the kick off. Purdue punted Immediately on receiving the ball and Illinois made a touch down without losing possession of the oval. Eleven minutes were required for the next score Moore kicked off and Illinois steadily rushed the ball toward the goal line, keep ing it all the time. They scored once more in the first half, using the same tactics as previously Five minutes after the opening of the second half Purdues line was crossed once more, but soon after Moore made his star play. The rest of the game was in no way different from the first part. Purdue had crowd of 400 rooters along. The lineup: Illinois. Position. Purdue SoIee- Wilmarth. fright end.
