The opponents will be two mem bers of the once-haughty Big Three, Harvard and Princeton. It will be the 30th renewal of a thrice-interrupted gridiron rivalry dating back to 1877, and it will be ‘their first meeting since the mem orable, jersey ripping game of 1926, which resulted in the latest severance of sports relations. There was a time when specula- tors demanded-and often got $2O, $3O and even more per pair for goal-line seats for the Harvard Princeton classic. But times have changed and today these pioneer football colleges are at almost op- posite poles of gridiron accomp- lishment. With Princeton unbeaten this season and last, and Harvard limping through what may prove her sourest season in more thaE a decade, the powers that be do not hope to fill the stadium to more than 75 per cent of it’s 58,00O capacity. Evidence of the pessim- ism over ticket demand is reflected in the announcement of a reduc- ton from $3.3O to $165 in the price of 23,893 seats. Harvard will be at full strength, but whether that strength will be sufficient to prevent a rout at the claws of the Crisler-coached Tigers is problematical. A score as one- sided as the 45–0 by which Prince ton trounced Cornell last Saturday would not cause amazement local ly. The Crimson beat Bates and Brown this season, then lost to Holy Cross and Dartmouth on suc- cessive Saturdays. Its chances of beating Princeton are generally re- garded as neglible and, aside from New Hampshire, there is possibil- ity that Harvard will not score an- other victory this season, Army and Yale both shaping up as al- together too formidable. Harvard’s shabby showing thus far this season, and her gloomy prospects for the November cam paign, have revived the question of whether she may not some day abandon her graduate coaching system in an effort to recoup her lost football fortunes. It is al- ready apparent that unless Har- yard beats Yale. and thus rounds out what-from the Harvard view point-will be a reasonably suc- cessful season, Eddie Casey’s job as head coach will be in jeopardy For defeat by Yale would leave the Crimson with only three wins this season, none over a major oppo. nent. Twenty mine times Harvard and Princeton have met during the lasl 57 years. The Tiger has triumph, ed IF times. Harv’‘‘‘ las won nine games, With three ties. tSssl The 1926 brean ..lationS wa the third. The previous breaks oc cured in 1889, with resumption il 1895. and in 1896, with resumption IS years later.
